I am a retired businessman, veteran naval officer, part owner of a manufacturer of food ingredients. I have lived most of my life in the Midwest, starting in Kansas, living 40-plus years in Minnesota, and now back in Kansas.

I am somewhat of a political junkie, albeit not by choice. I see the many assaults on our Constitution, and I can't just stand here and be silent. We need to be aware of the kind of the country we are passing on to the next generation.

In general, I follow conservative principles. This means I stand for limited government, freedom of speech, right to bear arms, accountability from our members of government, both elected and appointed.

I believe that capitalism is far more efficient than government control of business. While capitalism is not perfect, there are enough controls in place to prevent most abuses. This country needs more entrepreneurs, not fewer.

I am concerned about the coarsening of our culture. It is partly because of self-centered thinking. We need to be open to other points of view, but this does not require immediately shutting down a conservative person's right to free speech while progressives get rant without restraint.

John F. Kennedy was President when I was in the Navy. I would like to quote from his inaugural address: "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."

I try to live by those words. I greatly appreciate being an American citizen, and I do not want to let that fact be taken for granted. Therefore, I am always looking for more ways to give back. I also encourage that American history be taught in schools so the next generation will have an adequate appreciation of their country.

How Can I Save My Marriage?
You may think you are at the end of your rope. You are ready to give up. But don't you think you can give it one more shot, one more guided effort, with professional direction and assistance? It may be one of the hardest things to do to forgive your…

Lawsuits Against Obamacare
This law that was shoved down peoples' throats in the dark of night is getting the amount of attention it deserves. It is also getting the kind of attention it deserves. This hastily written law that no one read before voting for it deserves to be destroyed in its present…

Obama Attacks Nonprofits Post IRS Scandal
The president has mounted an attack on nonprofits again. He is back to using the IRS to trip up the activities of conservative groups which are chartered under 501(c)(4). Many of these nonprofit advocacy groups are serving as the messengers for conservatives. They will form an important arm of communication…

Underfunded Pensions Are A Plague For Americans - Broken Promises For Pensioners
Too much was promised to city and state employees, and America is on shaky ground. Taxpayers are on the hook for an estimated 4.1 trillion dollars. We have gradually fallen into this trap by making future promises that did not cost anything at the time, but now are coming due…

Hats Off To The Veterans Administration
The VA has had its share of critics. I am not one of them. In the midst of the Obamacare fiasco, I want to point out that the healthcare for veterans is in good hands. I understand in Minneapolis it was not always this way. I have heard reports that…

Help Veterans In Crisis - Treat Ptsd
U.S. Service personnel are committing suicide at an alarming rate of 23 each day. Those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) make up most of these cases. The Pentagon has been reluctant to make available a treatment that has many supporters. That treatment is hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT,…

Gridlock Not Necessarily Bad
Gridlock is not all bad. Congress doesn't have to pass a new bill every day. Good government means good quality laws, not quantity of laws. It was government working all too smoothly - gridlock free, if you will - that gave us the catastrophe that is Obamacare. Gridlock can be…

Student Loan Default Is Irresponsible
There is a growing problem of defaults on student loans. The student and the college are the two parties to a loan. Therefore, the government should not be involved. The government is funded by taxpayers, and taxpayers cannot control the process, so they should not have to pay for a…

Drill Here - Drill Now In Anwr
Had President Clinton vetoed legislation proposed by the Wilderness Society, we would now be pumping a million barrels of oil each day. Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) could get new oil flowing in 5 years, if the number of environmental lawsuits can be minimized. ANWR was hotly…
