The Story of Stuff...We Are Part Man, Part Packrat
Do you remember George Carlin’s classic routine on “stuff”? Carlin’s famous, good natured satire on how we all like to accumulate stuff, left an indelible impression on me and many others. It was funny and true, but it didn’t stop us from acquiring even more things. We LOVE things. Why…

What Is Awesome to You?
We live in a world that is totally awesome. Now, how awesome is that? Even the word awesome is awesome. Do you know how the word originated? It comes from “awe” (profoundly reverential) plus “some” which together mean inspiring awe. It goes back to c. 1670. Awesome crept into our…

i don't want to...
Oh what a delicious sounding phrase, both handy and emphatic. Who’s going to argue with it? I’ve learned the joy of saying “no” and “I don’t want to.” It only took me a lifetime, or at least until now to have the courage to express it when I feel it.…

The Law of Attraction and Relationships Healed Through Deliberate Creation
“Be careful what you wish for because you just may get it” That statement is not just a clever saying, it is very true. Like many of us, I am an eager, enthusiastic student of the Law of Attraction. I’m no expert on the subject, by a long shot. But…

Ending a Friendship is not Always Losing a Friend
Walking away from a toxic friendship is often the best way to handle an unhealthy alliance. Walk away, and don’t look back. Toxic friends will erode your spirit and certainly affect you negatively, physically and emotionally. Do you feel ambivalent about your friend? You like them, but you don’t really…

The Origin of Words, Tutti Frutti Hot Patootie
English is a fascinating language because it borrows so much from the Germanic and the Romance languages. Also, many of the original root derivations of English words come from the Greek, Sanskrit, and Arabic. We Americans have contributed a bundle of colorful expressions in the form of American slang and…

If you are part mermaid, like me, then you are going to love this project. Are you more likely to be combing the beach for sea shells than playing volleyball with your friends? Have you collected boxes and jars of shells? Aha! Maybe you even purchase shells from Florida, Hawaii,…

The Sugar Addiction that Could Have Brought Me Down
There is life after sugar, a healthier life that is free of this insidious addiction. I seriously hurt my health being addicted to sugar. Most people are in la la lane where sugar is concerned, and I was no exception. Sugar is more seductive than anything I can think of.…

What Is THE Color Of 2012?
You can't help but love all the pretty, pretty colors of 2012. But bear in mind, there is nothing arbitrary or accidental about those colors. The direction fashion takes is determined by many factors, including current events: what's happening all over the world, politics, economics, the general mood of the…

What Colors Make Brown? Why is the Color Brown So Popular In Home Decor?
There was a time when “brown” suffered from the awful stigma of being thought of as an ultra conservative and unimaginatively dull, and totally lackluster color. Let’s face it, brown used to be boring. Brown is easy to mix, as every five year old will tell you. Ask a child…
