About John

Hello brothers and sisters. Welcome to my humble little website. I hope you find something of value here that will help you spread the Gospel Of Jesus throughout the world.fed

I am shy, a total introvert. If you put me in a crowd I will immediately head to a “safe” corner. There I hope that someone (an extrovert) will notice me and come and talk to me. As you can imagine, or perhaps this is your experience too, this makes fundraising for missions a very scary thing. Interestingly enough, if you put me in a pulpit I don’t shut up!

I come from a varied theological background. Raised an Episcopalian, born-again in my 20′s through the Christian and Missionary Alliance and attended their college and seminary, finished a seminary degree through the Mennonites, and am working for ordination through the Free Methodist Church. I feel I have a good balance of wanting to see people saved but even if they aren’t – to see them fed and loved.

The people I am called to are from the northern part of Mindanao. Mindanao is an island in the southern part of the Philippines. It is one of the poorest parts of the Philippines which is extremely poor considering that the Philippines is one of the poorest countries on the planet.

While researching human trafficking in the Philippines I met Erma. Erma is an elementary school principal with 300 children in her care. She told me how her children’s families live on less than $1 a day and often come to school having ate nothing for breakfast and having nothing to eat for lunch. One child when asked what he brought for lunch produced a packet of soy sauce. That was his lunch. I decided then and there that I could do more.

I planned a 21 day trip to feed these children and created a budget for my travel. The total cost at minimum would be $3000. I had hoped to raise $5000. When I left I had $2500. Only about $500 was donated. Why? Because I am too shy to “beg”, or ask for money. I consulted other missionaries, scoured fund raising websites and came to realize that the common belief is that if you’re shy, you aren’t going anywhere!

I hope to change that perception. I hope this gives you hope to seek other indirect ways of raising money. These ways may be slower and involve even more work and dedication but for me that is my cross and that as long as money and awareness is being raised, it is all worth it.

In Him,
