I started dabbling in digital photography when I got my first digital camera, a Canon Rebel Xsi, for Christmas 2008. If you know anything about digital cameras, then you can appreciate how daunting it was to learn digital photography using such an advanced (to a newbie, anyway) piece of equipment. I spent many hours taking pictures, then fiddling with my camera's settings, then taking more pictures before finally admitting that I needed to read the manual. However, I quickly realized that the manual wasn't enough because it didn't teach me why I wanted to change my shutter speed or aperture or ISO; it merely explained the mechanics of how to do so. Consequently, I went online and to the library to find step-by-step information about how to take great digital pictures using my Canon Rebel Xsi and was disappointed by the lack of continuity among any site or book I could find about the subject. For this reason, I created my own website where budding digital photographers can start out on the right foot by learning the basics of digital photography and where they can connect with seasoned photographers who encourage them along the way.
