Roberto Garcia (Street Articles Author)

What's up everyone! My name is Robert and I'm really excited to be part of the street articles community! Well a little bit about me. I've grown up from humble beginnings. Both of my parents still work to make ends meet despite my dad being 65 and my mom being a little younger. It kills me seeing them working still and getting home tired from work and just not having any energy. One day I just said to myself, enough is enough, I got to do something about it.

In school, I've always been told I have a gift for writing and expressing myself in a creative way. I'm naturally an introvert, but I have a gift of speaking in front of crowds. I get scared as hell, but people really like my down-to-earth approach and they think I'm hilarious. I'm a very spiritual person, and one day God came to me and said that He gave me these talents for a reason, and it's my responsibility to use them to help people. So then I thought to myself, hmm there's got to be a better way to make money than just working a 9-5 job in an office. I'm a sagittarius, and trust me, we HATE being couped up indoors for long periods of time! So then I got the idea to start up my own website called gymratsden.com and to join street articles to showcase my writing talents to the world.

I've never been obsessed with money. I've never had a lot of it so that's probably why. But I do realize that we need it in order to be able to survive and live a nice life. I've grown up seeing my parents fight over money, or the lack of it, and I hate it. They've almost gotten divorced several times and it's all because of money. I want to be able to one day tell them, you don't have to ever worry about money ever again. I also want to be able to tell my future wife the same thing. If 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, I would imagine the majority of them end over money disputes. I don't want to be another statistic. I want to be able to provide for my family and have a happy marriage. I will do whatever it takes to accomplish this!

I'm just starting out with all of this, but I hope to one day be able to make myself financially independent from my parents, and to be able to help them retire. I've always been passionate about helping people, but it has to be done in a down-to-earth way so I can feel good about it. I mean yes, I do care about the financial gain for myself, but I want to help others using my talent of expression to inspire and give people hope.

We all have a passion or gift for doing some sort of activity. Some love sports and will never miss a big sporting event. Others have a gift for photography and can capture spectacular images on camera. Some people are passionate about politics and love debating all the different issues…

You Gotta Have Swagger!
I love slang, don't you? Slang changes from generation to generation, but the one thing that slang always has in common, is that it just sounds cool at the time. One of these words is "swagger". I love this word a lot. I don't care how many pricks always hate…

Why I Love Writing
Writing has been a passion of mine ever since I was a kid. I've never really been into poetry or anything like that, but I do love to write short stories and just random things that I can think of. I've been working on perfecting my craft the past few…

The Richie Parker Story
The other day I was watching ESPN and a little segment that they do once in a while came on. The segments are usually about a story of someone overcoming incredible odds to do something they love to do (sports-related of course). The story of a man named Richie Parker…

We Should All Use Our Talents
I'm sitting here at work on my lunch break thinking to myself how much I can't wait to leave my job and go do something I actually want to do. My job consists of being a part-time office assistant at a mental health clinic with some of the craziest clients…

Mike Tyson's Punch Out! Memories
Today I've been feeling a bit nostalgic, just thinking about my childhood and how things have changed since then. I started to think about when I first started playing video games, and I remembered the first video game I ever played at the age of 7. It was called Mike…

Sometimes I Wish I Was Still A Kid
I think it's ironic how when we're little, we are in such a rush to grow up. But then we become adults, and we miss being little kids. I remember being so anxious to turn 18 so I can move out, but then the recession hit hard that very year,…
