For many years I have know that the one thing I should be doing is saving money. For what ever reason that was not happening. When I was young well I was young and spending money seemed to be the thing to do and there never seemed to be enough of it anyways. As I got older I had already developed a habit of not saving and the people around me were not saving either. If they were they sure kept it a secret. Fortunately at some point I learned how to save my money and why.
The why of saving money became very important to me because it gave me an incentive to make a difference. I am sure you have heard that we should have six months savings at all time in case we hit hard times. Well that always seemed impossible to do, so I ignored that very good piece of advice.
So why save? As I started to really get older I started to understand that my financial future and my life was up in the air. I was dependent on someone else to make my life work. That someone else was my job if something anything happened I would actually be penniless and maybe even bankrupt.
The question became how do I make a change. I have no money I thought and everything's tight and I barely pay the bills as it is. Yet I acknowledged things would get worse if something happened to me or my job and my child depends on me. So when I got paid I put eleven dollars in my savings account.
That was hard. I can smile about it now but I could not smile when I did it. Now I knew this would not revolutionize my world but the next time I got paid that eleven dollars was still in that account and I added another eleven. The next pay I put in twenty. I was slowly raising the limit until a tenth of what I made would be put aside each pay.< /p> Now you have heard the saying pay yourself first but what do you do with it when you have it? As I read and studied I came across this wording instead. A part of what you earn is yours to keep. That made sense to me, helped to move me along I do not have to give out more or even all the money I am bringing in.
When you save use a savings account so that when you check your balance on your computer or smart phone the money you have in savings will not show up. After a while you will forget about it. As you save continue to add to it each pay what ever you can afford and as you do this you will be able to save more and more.
Make your first goal to get to the point where a tenth of what you earn is being saved. Then continue until you have your six months nest egg built up. When you are done with that you can begin to build in earnest for the future.
Here is one thing to remember about saving each time you save it becomes a habit and before you know it you moved the money into your savings account without giving it a second thought. Now you have money you never thought you would have to be able to invest and make profits and to build a future for yourself and your family. Remember the first step is to save something even if just five dollars and work your way up from there. Many people have started with nothing to end up with a substantial life simply because they started.
I feel its not the amt but cultivating the habit of saving for a rainy day. My old folks are good at that and I'm trying to follow them.
Start with whatever you can to just do it. You start the action, start the habit and then it builds. I like it.
I view money as a vehicle it allows you to pay your bills, afford your house, makes sure when your older it will be their to continue to do those things. So I have realized its important in the life we lead. Money on the other hand will not make you happy, will not fill that void that may be missing in your life. You have work on those things for yourself like getting in shape. But the day to day issues of light, gas , food ect.. for those its about having money. One of the studies I looked at said 28 percent of America's have no savings at all.
Good advice. I always believed that when it come`s to money you should take time to decide what is important. Things like your health and ambitions; the things that really make your life a more enjoyable experience. You will find that you do not need as much money as you think you do.
