Success = Small Efforts Done Daily

It’s not the big things in life that count. Contrary to what most people think in life. It’s the small things in life that trip up most people and cause more disappoints, and dashed dreams than any other thing in life.

If people will do the small things day in and day out, they will eventually see successes in their lives. Small efforts + Small efforts done day in and day out equal the sum of success.

We must start to see the big picture, the overall goal, yes, but we have that picture in our mind’s eye then we need to put our noses to the grindstone and do the tough stuff.

I live in the great state of Georgia. We have a college football team that everyone is crazy about named “the Georgia Bulldogs.” They have their eyes on the big prize every year, a college bowl game. This is the ultimate prize for them; this is where they are headed. Final destination bowl game, come January each year.

The only thing standing in their way is the small things, their small efforts; doing the little things, repeated day in and day out on the practice field that will eventually equal the sum of a bowl game.

If the Georgia Bulldogs ever stand a chance at a bowl game each year they have to put their noses to the grindstone and practice, practice, practice. It’s not the big things that will trip them up, it’s the little efforts left undone that will cost them their bowl game this coming January.

It’s the same way in each and every one of our lives. We focus on the big things in our lives, forgetting the small things. There is a scripture in the Bible that says “It’s the little foxes that destroy the vines”.

The question for you today is “Are you focused on the big picture, while the little foxes are ruining your vines?” You need to start focusing on the little things today, start making small efforts over and over again. Day in and day out consistently and you will begin to see all kinds of successes in your life.

Would you like a better marriage? Would you like better children or how about more enjoyment out of your job? Begin to focus your concentration on the little things, the things that really matter, the things that deserve your attention.

Many times we focus on the things that we think will bring us happiness, peace, and contentment, all along forgetting the things that truly matter, causing us to lose momentum on our road to success. We ultimately lose traction and momentum and in the process wear ourselves out on our journey to the ultimate destination. So sad that we never make it to the goal post of life, we never experience that touchdown, that home run, that basket. We have our priorities all wrong. This week I encourage you to return to the small efforts in your life. Let’s begin to concentrate on making the small efforts. The difference is, this time we are going to commit to doing them day in and day out. This is going to eventually equal the success we all want in our lives. The word for this week is “consistency”. We all need more consistency in our lives. I can hear the coach of the Georgia Bulldogs in my ear. “Consistency, boys!! Consistency! That’s what it’s all about if you want a bowl game in January.” I ask you, do you want life’s ultimate bowl game in your own life? If you truly do remember this small equation, keep it close to your heart and focus your mind on it. Small efforts + small efforts, done consistently ultimately equals success! Now get out there this week and practice your small efforts over, and over, and over again then have an awesome day. See you tomorrow!

Hi Sonya, I think even in my own life if I focus on the big picture sometimes it can be overwhelming and paralyzing. If I will break the task into baby steps and tackle it one piece at a time the puzzle eventually gets solved. Thank you for commenting on the article it makes me want to continue to write knowing someone is reading my work.

Why Life is Like A Catapult
Ok, it’s one of those analogies that I came up with in the shower yesterday morning. But I’m seriously chuffed with this one. Such that future clients, NLP4Kids practitioners and the companies I mentor are going to get “the catapult talk” if they start telling me that they are struggling…
