So you have decided to have a go at Internet Marketing to start your home based business opportunity?
Okay but you need some training right, because otherwise you would be a successful internet entrepreneur by now wouldn’t you?
Well there are loads of training offerings out there so how do you decide which one to go for? To do that you would need to know what expertise you need to be a success at Internet Marketing.
In the corporate world we would do a training needs analysis (TNA) to find the answer to this one wouldn’t we? (Well yes we would actually).
So why not a self TNA that you can do to find out what is the right training for you? Otherwise if you don’t then you can go round buying all sorts of training “stuff” and end up being very disappointed.
So what sort of training will you need?
You will need to understand
1. What the internet is and how you can use it to market products
2. How to set up a web site and use it to market products. Don’t worry because this part is quite easy.
3. How to be able to find (small) market niches where you will sell products. Don’t worry because you don’t need to actually have products in your garage to sell
4. How to write articles which will direct potential buyers to your web site.
The next part is you.
What sort of training suits you best? Is it:
1. Reading books or articles
2. Going to a class?
3. Do you need lots of examples to follow or can you do it alone?
4. Have you got the knowledge we outlined above or do you need to learn any particular area?
5, All of the above?
So now we come to an important part.
Working at a home based business - is very different to working in a job.
Consider the following:
1. In the office you can socialise with other staff. You can go and ask another member of staff if you have a problem.
2. At home you are (probably) on your own or your partner doesn’t understand it either.
3. In the office you can almost always find someone who knows about what you are looking to do. At home there will be times with books and articles where you will wish you could talk to someone who knows.
4. In the office you usually have a plan and are measured against that plan. When starting out with Internet Marketing you are probably starting with a blank sheet of paper. If you can’t get the basics and some feedback how will you know whether you are making progress or not?
So it all sounds a bit bleak doesn’t it? Well don’t despair because it is no where near as bad as it sounds.
Lets look at one basic fact – millions of people have been successful at Internet Marketing and so why can’t you be one?
Those millions of people will have done what you are trying to do now – so why can’t you learn from them? After all it is just possible they will have made some mistakes on the way to their success and you would like to avoid these – right?
So here is my advice - based on my own personal experience of a person on their own starting up with Internet Marketing from nothing:
1. Start out by searching the web for the freebies which explain what Internet Marketing is all about, so that you have a basic understanding.
2. Avoid spending money until you are absolutely convinced that you have to. My rule is don’t spend money if you can find a freebie on the web and it is amazing how much is out there.
3. Look for a learning experience site when deciding on which training to use, rather than a vendor who is trying to sell you his or her product to get you started on web based at home business opportunities. The trick here is to learn and make yourself independent to be able to go it alone without spending yet more money.
4. In that learning experience site make sure you can learn from other people on line (that’s what the web is there for right?). All those people will have made mistakes and you will then avoid the same ones.
5. Don’t ever hesitate to ask those people because you will be amazed how helpful they can be. We all have a surprising reluctance to ask people questions because we think they will think we are stupid, dumb, naïve, whatever you like. In a learning experience site they will have all been there and had the same questions so they will not think that way.
So Internet Marketing training will be a bit different to what you might have had before, but if you join an online learning experience site you can go along at any time of the day or night, at your pace, and learning becomes fun then as you move forward. You will get all the training you need and be able to discuss over the web any issues you have with people who have been there and done it already. This will really help you as you start out on the new road to having a home based business.
I found a learning experience site that I liked so much I wrote a review about it.
I hope this helps – enjoy learning about, and being successful at Internet Marketing as your home based business.
The only stupid question is the one not asked...good read Keith...
