If you or someone you know suffers from acne, then you're aware that it's an undesirable and sometimes overwhelming condition to deal with it. Whether you're a teenager or an adult, severe acne can make you feel self-conscious and even cause you to avoid social interactions altogether in hope of "hiding" your breakouts. The good news is that there are some simple strategies that you can follow to help reduce and even eliminate your breakouts.

One of the best things you can do to get rid of acne is to drink plenty of water thoughout the day. Our body is made up of approximately 70% water so it's important to stay hydrated in order for our body to function properly. The skin is one of the first parts of our body that's affected by dehydration. When we lack water, our skin loses moisture and is less effective at getting rid of the toxins in our skin. Our skin is one of the primary means of eliminating waste so if this function becomes compromised, then bacteria will accumulate and this creates an environment where breakouts can occur.

Stressful situations such as finals week or an important job interview can lead to increased oil production and a higher chance of developing acne. It's important to be self-aware of your stress levels and take the necessary steps to reduce it. Sometimes all it takes is a quick 10-15 minute walk or maybe an afternoon shopping with a friend to get your stress levels and your complexion back to normal.

Maintaining a regular exercise program is also effective at reducing breakouts. Exercise improves blood circulation and ensures that your skin receives the oxygen and nutrients it needs to clear your acne and prevent future breakouts from occuring. The increased perspiration also helps flush away bacteria and toxins that accumulate from your pores. For some people, however, sweat can also irritate the skin so it's important to always shower after exercising. The friction caused by your exercise clothes can also irritate the pores so it's recommended that you wear loose-fitting clothes to prevent bacne, or acne on your back.

Your skin's complexion is affected by your diet so it's important to know which foods to eat and which ones to avoid. Foods that are high in fiber like apples, oatmeal, and brown beans are recommended because they help eliminate fats and other acne causing agents. Whole grains and green, leafy vegetables should also be included in your diet because they help rejuvenate the skin and they're a good source of B-vitamins, which is essential for basic skin function. Try to avoid foods and beverages that contain refined sugar, processed meats, and vegetables because they promote inflammation in the body and can actually worsen your acne.

Regardless if you're looking to get rid of acne on your back or on your face, these four healthy tips are a great compliment to any acne treatment program and will help you achieve your goal of having a more attractive skin. So follow these steps and your body will surely reward you healthy looking skin.
