Acne Scars - Home Remedies You Can Try Today

Acne scars are not something anyone wants to have to deal with. But, if you've been afflicted with them, then you'll be looking for some treatments. Surgical options are expensive, and aren't as effective as people make them out to be. Home remedies on the other hand, while they take longer, and aren't as "sure fire" as the surgical option offer a cheap and effective solution to the acne scarring conundrum. Here are some great home remedies that you can try today - you should have some lying around the house, but if not, your local supermarket should have everything you need.

Baking Soda. This is something everyone should have - but I could be wrong! Baking soda is very cheap, and one of the more popular methods of removing acne and the associated scarring. Baking soda works as a physical exfoliant - that is, it helps to shift the skin, sloughing off the old stuff and making way for the new stuff. You may laugh, but give it a try first! Simply make the baking soda into a paste with a single drop or two of water. You don't need much water, trust me. Massage it into your skin, and once it's gone all dry, you can wash it off with warm water. Repeat this once a day for the best results. It's best to do it in the evening once you've already given your skin a good clean.

Vinegar. Vinegar is a real favourite among "natural" circles. I've seen it touted as a solution to everything from a weed killer, to an appetite suppressant, to a lint remover and an eye glass cleaner. It also works quite well as a toner for the skin and a scar fader... not that that's surprising! Apple cider vinegar is perhaps the most popular type for the skin, but you can start off with any that you have on hand. Use it sparingly and make sure that you do a spot test before you really start the treatment. Play this one by ear - while it works well for certain people, for others the vinegar will just be too much. Trust your instincts!

Lemon Juice. The all-famous lemon juice as scar reducer. If you plan on trying lemon juice (and I do hope you have a lemon or two handy) there are a few things you should know. Lemons are great at reducing pigmentation in the skin and reducing the redness of scarring. It doesn't work so well on pitted or bumpy scarring. As with the vinegar, make sure that you do a spot test. You might want to dilute the juice with some water. It's quite strong! One other thing to be aware of: for reasons unknown to us, skin that's had lemon juice on it reacts stronger to sunlight. So don't apply it just before you're about to head out into the sun - in fact, if you can do it later in the evening all the better.

I hope that these are some treatments you can try to reduce acne scars. Home remedies aren't the fastest way to reduce them, but given time you should be able to make a solid difference. There are lots of other treatments by the way you can also try to help your skin. So good luck!
