It always starts with just one and there is a second one... and another. We are talking about pimples now; these small things on our faces or other parts of the body we try to get rid of by changing our diets, lifestyle, products and finally by squeezing them. In this article I will focus especially on squeezing and acne products and if you should squeeze your whiteheads at all.
Whiteheads - Squeezing Habit
It's harder than one may think, but we should never squeeze a whitehead; but easier said than done.
Tips on Dealing with Squeezing Habit:
- Make your own acne kit, where you will keep small towel (always clean one) and acne products you are going to use to deal with acne.
- Every time, when you notice new whitehead on your forehead, take the towel and use hot compress to push down the infection deeper into the skin or getting it out.
- If the whitehead gets out, you can use clean needle to prick it and hot compress afterwards to remove the rest of infection.
- Hot compresses can be used on a daily basis, even if you don't have any whiteheads present as they will help to open the pores and let your skin breath. More often you do hot compresses, you teach yourself a good habit of not thinking about squeezing the whitehead if it appears but to use compress as a natural way of removing the obstacle.
- The problem is... you may enjoy squeezing whiteheads, and as nasty as it sounds, we all do that. Why should you stop doing that? Simply, squeezing whiteheads make your skin look bad and scars is all what you get in the end.
Products Used in Acne Skin Care Routine
There are many products on the market meant to help you with acne skin care but the truth is, they won't help you overnight, as it would be too simple solution for such a complex problem. If you are trying to get rid of acne for some time, surely you have heard about 3 most common ingredients that acne products are based on: sulphur, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, let's see what they can add to your skin care routine.
Sulphur & Salicylic Acid
They have been used for many years now, because they simply work. How good they are? It's actually different for each of us. For me they might work very good, on the other hand for you they might not help at all. You will have to test them to find out and like with any proven acne treatment – it takes time, you will not remove your acne overnight, so be sure to have a lot of patience.
You can find some masks that contain sulphur and work good on acne skin. It's important to read the usage instructions of the product you are going to use, because wrong usage are often the cause of more skin problems.
Benzoyl Peroxide
It's well known, newer than sulphur and salicylic acid based products; benzoyl peroxide is found to be stronger as well. However, does stronger means better? Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, you will have to give it a try to find out and see on your own face which ingredient is the best for you.
You can find benzoyl peroxide in many forms, however most people find the gel form as the best one to use.
Benzoyl peroxide based products have really drying effect on your skin, you may find hard to tolerate, so make sure you start with 5% strength one, even if you think 10% one wouldn't be strong enough – it's just safer for your skin to start slowly, giving your skin time to learn the product and become familiar with it, if you overuse it you can find some other skin problems you don't want to have. It's great to start using once or twice per day 5% benzoyl peroxide, and after a couple of weeks change it to stronger one if you think your skin won't have problems to deal with it. Please be careful with sensitive areas of your face like eyelids or corners of your lips. Usually people with lighter skin color benzoyl peroxide harder to tolerate comparing to darker skin colors.
3 Tips on Using & Choosing Acne Products
There are plenty of beauty tips about using and choosing good skin care products, here you have 3 tips, I find worth mentioning:
- Don't know if you should use sulphur or benzoyl peroxide based product? You can give your face a try by using one product on half of the face, and the other product on the other half, after several weeks you will know which is the best for you.
- You can use both products to enjoy each one's benefits, by using benzoyl peroxide one day and the other day applying sulphur one.
- Patience is the key. You will not get rid of acne overnight using any given option. You will have to wait several weeks, however day by day your skin will surely feel and look better, be patient is the key, though.
Often it's not easy to get rid of acne quickly, but no matter how hard it might be I'm sure it the right way to choose. Do not feel bad about the problem and don't forget to consult with your doctor the choices you have.
