Choosing an Acne Treatment

So have you ever brought home a new acne treatment full of excitement only to feel totally shammed after applying it for weeks and possibly months (if you have that much patience) with no results. If so, I can promise you that you're not alone. How much money do you spend every year on new best rated products that are supposed to be the new miracle product? Too embarrassed to say? Yeah, me too.

Well, over the last decade I have noticed a change in the skin care product industry. There has been a dramatic increase in the specializing of these products, and I'm not just talking about products being categorized as anti-aging or organic. Skin care products are now being formulated to work for specific types. This ranges from the different kinds of acne to skin types and even includes products formulated for sensitivities. In order to choose an acne treatment that is right for YOU, you're going to have to get to know your skin a little better.

What Kind of Acne Are You Wanting To Treat?

The first thing you need to understand is what kind of acne you have, and you may not have just one. You don't want to get an acne treatment for cystic acne if all you have is just a few whiteheads and blackheads. The treatment could end up being way too strong and cause skin damage. On the other hand, if you have cystic acne, more than likely you'll need more than just a topical treatment.

What is Your Skin Type?

The biggest problem when it comes to picking out any skin care items is making sure it was made with your skin type in mind. You don'tt want to buy a moisturizer formulated for dry skin when you have oily skin. It will clog up your pores like no other. If you have combination skin, you may have to take extra care about where you use skin care products on your face. You can use an astringent on your oily t-zone but if you use it on your dry cheeks they will start flaking.

Do You Have Any Allergies or Sensitivities?

If you are using any skin care product and find that your face turns red after continued use, breaks out more so than usual, or becomes really dry and flaky you may have an allergy to one of the ingredients. Unless your skin is extremely sensitive (they also have specialized acne treatments for that too), then more than likely you have a skin sensitivity to the main ingredient(s).

Choosing an acne treatment is way easier when you know what you are looking for, and just as important, what you are not looking for. Educate yourself on the kind of acne you struggle with as well as your skin type and if you have any sensitivities or allergies to ingredients. This is invaluable information not only for choosing an acne treatment, but for choosing any skin care or beauty product.
