Just like other diseases and disorders, there have been quite a few unrealistic assumptions regarding acne. And the reason for this is because of a lack of understanding regarding the disease, as well there has been very little research regarding the development of a cure for acne as well as the type of treatments that is available for acne sufferers.
Below are five of the top myths relating to acne. We will examine each myth and endeavor to shed light on the truth behind these myths.
Myth 1: Washing and Acne
Actually acne is not a result of not washing, sweating or poor hygiene. Unfortunately just using soap and water will not cure acne problems, there are a few different types of treatment you may try like medicated washes such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and sulfur.
Myth 2: What You Eat and Acne
Again this is a myth acne is not a direct result of your diet. There has been no scientific link that has found a connection between acne and diet. Whether that diet be chocolate, pizza, fries, or any other food, there has been no proof that has shown that these foods will cause acne. However a vital part in aggravating or lessening the severity of your acne can be found in your diet.
Myth 3: Acne is Incurable
Instead of suffering with acne you do have options. With the proper medications you do not have to live with this condition. In fact, there has also been significant results from natural products in controlling acne with very little to no side effects.
Myth 4: To Prevent Acne, Wash Your Face More
Actually no. Increase face washing will not prevent or cure acne. Because it is not the dirt that causes acne rather it is the over abundance of sebum or oil from within the skin that causes it.
Myth 5: Squeezing Pimples Is a Good Thing
Probably the worse thing you can do. Squeezing pimples will actually make the condition worse by allowing the puss from the follicle to enter the skin tissue which could cause scarring and damage. So you should avoid squeezing the pimples at all cost.
Hopefully this has cleared up some of the myths regarding acne. If you suffer from this there is hope. Through proper skin care methods you can control and manage your acne more effectively. As mentioned, there are natural products that you can try but the key for there effectiveness is to continually using them. You cannot expect results after one or two applications, it will take time.
Good Job, Troy. I fell for that #5 Myth myself when I was a young lad.
