When it comes to being addicted to heroin many people may try to tell you how to run your recovery or treatment. I believe this is OK to a point as long as they are suggestions and not telling you what you have to do. My point here is that when it comes to getting clean and sober I think the best substance abuse treatment plan is a personal choice of what actually works best for the individual.
Substance abuse plan
1. Going to church is always good because without a higher power in our life we will never able to stay clean.
2. 12 step programs are great for recovery many people use programs like Narcotics anonymous and Alcoholics anonymous to help them overcome addiction. There are a couple of great benefits to using these programs one is that they are absolutely free and the other is they are both worldwide organizations.
3. Exercise is very important too because heroin addiction reeks havoc on your entire body but with regular exercise not only will it improve your overall physical health it also helps you to improve mentally.
I can tell you that my experiences were that I suffered from this addiction a whole lot of days after I got out of rehab for heroin addiction but I found that going for a daily walk improved this problem immensely. I would encourage you to do this but at the same time if you are already doing it if your and addict anything like me there will be days when you do not feel like taking a walk.
These are the times that may separate the winners from the loser. I made myself go and I found that when my walk was finished I had forgotten that I was feeling bad because I was felling absolutely great.
4. Meditation Is a great way to get centered after a long day and get closer to God. Meditation takes some practice after all we were not perfect addicts when we first started using opiate drugs like heroin.
I attend a 12 step meeting on Sat mornings and the first 15 minutes are for meditation and then we start the NA meeting. Like I said meditation takes practice because when I first started meditating my brain would not slow down no doubt one of the consequences of my heroin addiction but I remembered to pay attention to my breathing and this got me back on track.
5. Addiction therapy or substance abuse counseling can help you overcome addiction if you start out being honest from day one. I know it helped me and I give the credit to God and substance abuse therapy. I started attending counseling in drug rehab while I was going through opiate withdrawal. When I got out of treatment I attended sessions once per week for two years.
When I first started therapy I had a whole lot of embarrassing secrets that I did not want anyone to know and by the time I got myself back on track my life was basically an open book. There is nothing like having a clean conscious. If you have never tried addiction therapy I would suggest that you do.
Good luck
