Randy Travis: Will Alcohol Ruin His Career?

Having a Bad Year So Far

Randy Travis, who went through a messy divorce in 2010, was found with alcohol in his car earlier this year. He is a famous country music star, and pleaded no contest to a charge of public intoxication. He was found parked outside a church in Sanger, Texas, with an open bottle of wine shortly after the Super Bowl in February.

His ex-wife, Elizabeth Travis, who used to be his business manager, filed a lawsuit regarding her management contract. Randy Travis filed a countersuit against her in May. He claimed she used confidential information to try to ruin his reputation.

Just last week, Randy Travis crashed his Trans Am into construction barricades. Alcohol might be related to his arrest last Tuesday. He allegedly threatened to kill the Texas Troopers who found him lying naked in the road. This time he was arrested in Grayson County, Texas. He was released on bond (which cost $21,500) the next day with a 90-day deferred, or probationary, status.

The DWI (driving while intoxicated) was a misdemeanor, and his alleged verbal threat was a felony. I thought he would learn his lesson from his arrest in February. His problems with alcohol seem to be getting worse, because he was just sitting in a car in February. This time he crashed his car and allegedly threatened to shoot some public officials.

His Career

Randy Travis has sold more than 20 million records and has won numerous music awards. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has been on tour this year for the 25th anniversary celebration.

Are people going to remember his music or are they going to remember his brushes with the law? Will alcohol ruin his career? If they remember the bad things, they might forget his music skills and his deep voice. As far as I know, he hasn’t missed any of his tour dates, and hopefully, he won’t miss any of them. He is known for his country and gospel music, and he still is able to perform on stage.

Shaping Up

If he can continue singing on tour and get some help for his problems with alcohol, he has a chance to continue his singing and musical career. He has also done voice-overs for TV shows and films. He might also need some help with dealing with his divorce while combatting alcohol problems. If he doesn’t do that, his alcohol problems are likely to get worse. He might end up missing tour dates and he might forget or “call off” appointments for voice recordings. He might turn people off with erratic behavior (cussing people out and starting arguments). Hopefully, those things won’t happen to him. If he can work on his problems, he can start focusing on enjoying his fame. Then he can continue to make money with his music and voice overs.

The perils of addiction. He has a long road to recovery, but he can if HE wants to.

Hi Shawn, Before he can get help, he would have to admit he has a problem. Then he can see a doctor or counselor who would recommend help. Without help, his career may end prematurely.

I agree, he needs to take a long look at where he is and where he is headed. Not always easy to do.
