Moving To A Different Country With Kids

Moving abroad must be one of the biggest adventures anyone can have in their lifetime. It can also be the most stressful if you don’t go about it in the right way especially if you have a family to consider.

If you are planning to move abroad and have children to consider, the younger they are the easier it will be as they will adapt very quickly to a new lifestyle, whereas teenagers are a different kettle of fish. If the country you are moving to speaks a different language then young children will find it a lot easer to learn the language and therefore fit in a lot quicker. Teenagers on the other hand might not want to learn a new language and may find it difficult to find new friends with whom they can communicate. They will miss their friends at home and may lead to conflicts within the household. When considering the move make sure that there are people in the area you are going to move, who speak the same language as you, this makes life a lot easier for both adults and children alike.

It can be very daunting when you move abroad and you can’t understand a word anyone is saying, so I suggest you do a quick language course before you go so you at least know the basics when you get there. There are plenty of free courses on the internet now so it needn’t cost you a fortune.

Get the kids involved too it will not only keep them occupied but it will also make life a lot easier when you move, they may even find it fun and exciting. After all this is probably the biggest adventure of their lives so they should make the most of it, and it will also teach them that learning a new language can be fun and also rewarding.

Be sure to check out local schools in the area before you go, most counties have English schools but this can be costly so look into the putting your children into one of the local schools, this may be difficult at first but i'm sure in the long run it will be the best decision as they will learn the language in no time at all.

As for teenagers make sure there are lots of activities to keep them occupied, a swimming pool, Tennis Courts or even a beach close by could make your life a hell of a lot easier and less stressful as they wont get time to get bored and will be mixing with the locals this making new friends and enjoying their new adventure.

Lastly make sure you have family time to go out to local restaurants etc where you too can meet new people and make new friends because it is not all just about the kids.
