I just love mountains and all that comes with it: bushwalking, mountain climbing, hiking, the pristine fresh air, the views and so much more.
One of my favourite mountain tops is the highest point in the Blue Mountains, Blackheath and Mount Victoria.
Although Blackheath is considered to be the highest point in the Blue Mountains, however the highest point in the Blue Mountains is in the fact Mount Piddington at Mount Victoria at 1064m in altitude.
Why are people so attracted to mountaintops?
Mountains have traditionally been known for the benefits of its clean air which can provide healing to all sorts of respiratory health problems. I know of several families who relocated to the mountains especially for that purpose.
For instance my friend Lorraine's family left Sydney's North Shore when she was about 5 and moved permanently to Leura in the Blue Mountains so that their daughter's lungs could be healed and get a respite from her health issues.
As soon as I leave Sydney's smog and start driving up mountains, I find I feel invigorated and relaxed. The blueish green of the eucalyptus trees and the sound of the birds never stop to amaze and inspire me.
Mountains all over the world seem to have these delightful villages and the quaintest cafes.
Apart from the fabulous bushwalking, hiking and everything else the mountaintops can offer, one of the things I have noticed is the gorgeous gift shops, bookshops, cafes and art galleries you can find at the mountains top.
Depending on the time of the year, whether it is freezing in the middle of winter huddled by the roaring open fire with my Macbook or sitting in one of the many sidewalk outdoor cafes in the main street of Katoomba drinking cappuccinos, it is just as delightful and the same feeling of ease and relaxation.
There is no doubt people feel better when they are in such pristine and peaceful surroundings. As most mountaintops are usually around 1 hour plus away from the main city, usually a couple of days, at least, will make the visit more enjoyable with a variety of B&B's, Guesthouses, Motels and holiday houses
For instance to reach the top of the Blue Mountains it will take around 1 hour and 4o minutes from Sydney's CBD. On arrival the Tourist Information Centre at Glenbrook and Echo Point Katoomba are available to answer queries regarding cafes, restaurants as well as accommodation.
During the peak period, one of the things to be aware of is 'tourists'. Obviously the mountaintops can get very crowded during the high season.
