People are always looking for crazy challenges to do these days in order to raise money for charity. But have you ever considered taking part in a Banger Rally?

I should start by explaining what a Banger Rally actually is. It is essentially a road trip, usually over 1000 miles that is split over three to seven days. Most Banger Rallies are four days long. Now that doesn't sound too challenging does it?

But all this must be done in a car that is worth less than £300. And a good Banger Rally is always full of cars that have been made over in a theme. This can literally be anything you like. Famous movies often make good themes or old cop television shows like Starsky and Hutch. But there are rallies that have had vehicles such as a hearse or a fire engine taking part.

Each day on a Banger Rally you will be presented with an envelope with some tasks for your team to complete before finishing at the agreed location each day. Cash prizes are usually given out to the team with the most points overall, the team with the best car in terms of theme and fancy dress.

So basically a Banger Rally is a way for you and a few mates to take a road trip for very low cost and potentially winning some money at the end.

As well as having a really great time with some friends many people use it as an opportunity to raise money for charity as well.

A good bit of advice is always choose a rally that ends in a city you know will have regular flights back to Britain. As many people scrap, sell or give away their banger at the end of the rally the only option is to fly back home.
