There is no doubt that affiliate marketing can be extremely rewarding – however to achieve consistence success you need to avoid making the common affiliate mistakes that unfortunately too many people make. So they go into affiliate marketing armed with nothing but myths and fantastical notions about wealth swimming in their heads, never realizing or stopping for one moment to appreciate that they are bound to make mistakes that will prove to be their downfall.

Common Affiliate Mistake No. 1 – Lack of knowledge regarding your business and in particular the search engines. Successful affiliate marketing involves promotion and the reality is this would not be possible through the internet without the search engines! So every affiliate needs to become best friends with the search engines and study and understand search engine optimisation. You need to keep abreast of the latest developments and changes,understand what impact these can have on your business and take action to capitalise on these changes.

Common Affiliate Mistake No. 2 – Stuffing your website full of banners and promotional images and providing no useful content. Whilst there is still a place for banners and creative, many people these days have a level of blindness to them. The most effective way of promoting products and services through your website is to do this through unique and high quality content where you link to the product naturally within your articles. Web users these days are far more savvy and will be switched off by a site that is just full of promotional banners.

Common Affiliate Mistake No. 3 – Promoting only one product – Whilst the product you are promoting may be excellent, by only promoting one product you are seriously running the risk of losing sales from customers by not giving them alternative options to choose from. The key is to give your customers a limited choice of options – it also means you can continually build new content on a small range of different products.

Common Affiliate Mistake No. 4 – Hand in hand with no. 3 is promoting too many products! Not only does this confuse your visitors and give them too many choices, but it also limits your chance to focus on specific niches. As I said above the key is to promote a limited number of choices.

In summary, affiliates that are doomed to fail in this business are those who do not expend enough energy and effort to understand everything involved in the industry that they are in, you can take advantage of affiliate marketing training courses to give yourself a solid start and to help you avoid these and other common affiliate mistakes.
