A Major Subject Overlooked Within The Republican Party
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Before I leave the GOP for the umpteenth time, I would like to suggest an added group within the Party to be discussed where the subject can be debated.

Is there room for a Secular division of the GOP? It would be based on the agenda of promoting individual freedoms for all Americans. Seeing how the current GOP distrusts women of breeding age, homosexuals, senior Americans dying of agonizing disease and wanting to put an end to the suffering, it would seem that they need a place within their own political Party. Many of these Republicans have to move to another nation or in some cases another state to have their freedoms of their choices allowed.

Many of these Americans are free-enterprise capitalists and do not want to change their registrations to the Democratic Party. They should not have to do this. This change of agenda within the GOP came during President Bush’s campaign in 2000 when he gave the Churches federal grants wiping out the Separation of Church and State. At this time, the GOP became the arm of the Religious Right and all the agenda items were changed, I do not believe that all Republicans are Christians. The Party of the Right is now under the laws found in the holy Bible, not the U.S. Constitution. .

As a Republican, it is very painful to have to listen to candidates like Speaker Newt Gingrich call Secular Humanists the enemy of America. I can assure you we are not. Many of our founders were Secular Americans and wanted freedoms for most of the American people. Since that time America has accepted women’s rights to vote followed by the right to decide the number of members of her family. We added full rights for African Americans. We are working on gay marriages and the right to die when the agony of disease becomes unbearable. We are all Americans and more than half are Republicans.

The Libertarian agenda tends to overlook many Americans who are not strong enough to stand without a federal safety net; therefore it will be up to an improved agenda within the Republican Party to add freedoms to all individual Americans based on the U.S. Constitution leaving no citizen out of the individual freedoms we were promised at the signing of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
