Crisis in the health care system.

Now that congress passed a new health care law in 2009, it seems to have created a Crisis in the Health Care System.

  • Are costs going to increase to a point of bankruptcy or is it going to become more affordable?
  • Is our service going to become more available or are we going to have limited service?
  • What about Doctors and Nurses, are they going to stay in their professions?
  • Will the training of new Doctors and Nurses be adequate?
  • What about the costs and availability of medications in the future, will they be affordable?
  • Will development of new medications and medical procedures, continue at a level that meets the needs and quality our health care system?

The above list of questions are some that I think of as I listen to the pundits on the news reports. The concerns of most people is about the welfare of our Health Care going forward. Will we be able to afford care at a level of quality that we are used to? What are our alternatives in the future?

In the future, how long will we have to wait for a specialized Doctor when we have a medical problem that we have not experienced before? Six months or longer? USA Today and Huffington Post 2010 claimed Doctors' shortages could cause 28 States to expand their Nurse Practitioners role. With the shortage of Doctors, a nurse may soon be your Doctor. Kaiser Health News in 2009 reports that Doctor and Nursing shortages could undermine Health care reform in the future.

There is a lot of discussion about the cutback of Drug availability that could cause increased Pain and Suffering with Drug price controls. The requirements for Drug development requires a long period of time, so therefore it's very expensive, which could cause a slow down in approval and manufacturing. This could cause increased shortages and may cause Drugs to not become available when needed.

With the Country divided and our highest Court approving the Health Care Act on a split decision, the policy writers are busy interpreting the new law, and the regulations are starting to be implemented. I suppose we will start the learning process of how this new law will affect each one of us as we start needing health care services.

With the increase in the numbers of baby boomers going on the Medicare system, there will be an increase in the demands for doctors, nurses, and a variety of specialized health care. As we get older the body starts breaking down therefore requiring more attention. There are other issues, such as Diabetes which is also placing an extra load on the medical profession. These are just a few of the many issues that are contributing to the Crisis in the Health Care System.

Street Talk

Having seen the decline of the professional care provider over a 30 year span as a surgeon's assistant, became a casualty of an incompetent staff at my local hospital after finishing a traveler contract at a teaching hospital in Boston. Until medical care stops becoming a business of political brouhaha, patient care will become extinct.

My father predicted this back 30 years or so ago When the VA started having all their problems with the WW2 Veterans coming of age "What's going to happen to all you children born after the war when all the daddies came home?"
