President Barack Obama: The Greatest President America Never Had

Let me first start with a footnote. I generally don't like discussing politics because it so often reminds me of talking to a brick wall. So in writing this article I am basically talking to a brick wall and I can reach a happy median.

Remember 4 years ago? Election year 2008. John McCain vs. Barack Obama. An old white man vs. a black man in one of the most racially charged culture on the planet. That is not a good recipe for the Republicans. As you all know, Obama won and took office in early 2009. So, let's take a look at his first campaign and the promises he made America and how they played out.

First and foremost in my mind is his wonderful promise to cut the US debt in half by the end of his first term. This is a wonderful promise and I can understand why many naive voters could vote for him. We need to cut our deficit in half in a bad way. However, as you all should know, he has increased the national debt more than any other president in American history. How's is that for a flat out broken promise?

Related to the debt is the state of the economy. I don't care who you talk to, the vast majority of people will not say they are doing better than they were 4 years ago. Unemployment is at unheard of levels despite whatever adjusted numbers Obama's administration throws out. In an interview on 02/01/2009 Obama said that it was nice he could be held accountable and if he hadn't turned things around in 3 years that it would be a one term proposition. Well Mr. President, when are you going to step up to the plate and own up to your self-endowed accountability?

Thirdly is the issue of lobbyists. Obama repeatedly vowed to exclude lobbyists from his administration. However, there are at least 40 former lobbyists in the Obama administration at this time. They may not be active lobbyists now, but many went inactive only after Obama was elected. What makes you think that they have changed so much that calling them a "former lobbyist" changes how they do things?

American Citizens should keep Obama accountable to his own standards and promises. He lead many Americans to believe in his 2008 "Change" campaign. He certainly has changed America, it is headed into harder times than the like of this generation has seen unless something is done.

Great article! The only promise he kept during his first campaign was if he win the presidency he will give his daughters a dog. lol

It's about time that people start acknowledging that EVERY promise was broken, and it doesn't matter whether he said he would and then didn't or he wouldn't and then did. I think you were too kind in your well-written article. I feel better for knowing you, Jon
