Fluids and the mucus that fail to expel from the body system may end up causing coughing as well as congestion. It is the cough that accompanies the congestion that will help the doctor do the proper diagnosis of the cause of the disease. Usually people think that cough is the only cause of chest congestion however this is not true. Besides cough, there are several other things that may lead to chest congestion. Let us discuss some of the common causes of cough and chest congestion.

The most common cause of chest congestion is allergies. It is mainly caused by the different airborne products. In case, someone is allergic to such products, they may acquire problems such as allergic cough, congestion or even rashes. Such symptoms are usually seen in people who are allergic to pollen, dust and smoke.

Another cause of cough and chest congestion is cold and flu or perhaps the viral infection. The symptoms of these may include sore throat, cough, chest congestion and runny nose.

Third cause of chronic cough is asthma. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that may lead to the narrowing of the airways that could be because of cold air or allergic reaction. As a result, the patient may suffer from congestion, wheezing, cough, etc. Another culprit of this problem is bronchitis. It can be a serious threat if not treated well in time. This can be either a viral or the bacterial disease that may be characterized by the bronchi inflammation.

Fourth cause of chest congestion and chronic cough is pneumonia which again is a respiratory disease. It is usually caused by inflammation that could occur because of parasites, bacteria and viruses and can be extremely contagious if not treated in time.

Now that you know about the different causes of chest congestion and cough, it is equally important for you to know the remedies and solutions for congestion and cough treatment.

In order to treat the cough and chest congestion, one needs to treat the medical conditions listed above by use of different antibiotics in the form of medications. The drugs are effective in treating all the conditions but yes, asthma still does not have any cure. So, one can treat or reduce the effect of asthma by using inhalers or sprays. Drinking a number of fluids can also loosen the congestion in the lungs by eliminating the mucus that was otherwise filling your chest. Consumption of hot beverages such as tea, coffee or chicken soup can also be helpful in eliminating the effects of cough and congestion in the chest.
