Alternative Cancer Treatments; You Have A Choice

My name is Steve and I don’t have cancer. I attribute that in part to the things I am learning every day from things I have learned from a friend who is a cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed in 2000 and is still alive today because of some choices she made. She is teaching me things every day that I use for my own personal cancer prevention planning. Because of her, I have written a book called "Cancer What Is It, How Do You Get Cancer, and What Is The Best Cancer Treatment?"

She was first diagnosed in 2000 with breast cancer. Back then, she trusted what her doctors told her and underwent various treatments including radiation, surgery, and extensive and expensive drug therapy for several years. She still suffers from some of the side effects to this day. And not only was she physically and medically affected, her entire personal world was shaken up as well. Her “good” friends no longer kept in touch. Her ex-spouse left her. She could no longer run her very successful business and the several years of treatments impacted her financially.

In 2005, she was diagnosed again. This time, the indications were that it was terminal. But this time, after some serious considerations, she determined to beat the cancer using alternative cancer treatments. She vowed never to go through what she had experienced the previous 5 years. She researched and sought out various different kinds of natural treatments. She strengthened her resolve to beat cancer using alternative rather than conventional cancer treatments. She began what is still to this day a lifelong journey of learning. And she has shared her knowledge with many others.

Some have followed a similar path and accepted alternative cancer treatments. Others have not. It’s a personal choice. I have chosen to learn as much as I can about cancer for two reasons: (1) so that I can better understand what she is going through; and (2) so that I can prevent cancer in my own body. From her, I’ve learned that there are many aspects of cancer causes that are preventable, and that there is a growing world of alternative cancer treatments.

There are some things that we have no control over when it comes to cancer; namely genetic predisposition to cancer, and the vast amounts of environmental toxins from pollution that we are exposed to everyday. But there are some things that are preventable that can go a long way towards preventing cancer. Eliminating toxins, getting physically fit, and eating healthy are the mainstays of any alternative cancer treatment. Ironically, this is the one area where the conventional cancer treatment and alternative cancer practitioners can agree. Unfortunately, many people maintain an attitude of invincibility or “it will never happen to me” until it’s too late. Many choose to seek out and change things such as diet, lifestyle or work/life balance only after they’ve been diagnosed. Many choose to seek out the alternative cancer treatments as a last chance, “hail Mary” kind of an approach. From my friend, I’ve learned that there’s wisdom in understanding my options around alternative cancer treatments.

By understanding the differences between conventional and alternative cancer treatments, I have been able to modify some simple things in my life that I hope will go a long way towards preventing cancer in my body. I’ve embraced simple things like changes in diet. I haven’t deprived myself of the pleasures of eating well. I just eat smarter now. I follow a rule that several alternative cancer practitioners promote. I eat 70% healthy and 30% what I want. In my world, that doesn’t mean the 30% is pure toxic, carcinogenic processed foods. It just means that if I want something special once in a while, then I can have it. I’ve cut back on my alcohol intake. I don’t smoke. I walk more than I used to. I don’t eat out in restaurants anywhere near what I used to. I take some natural herbs & supplements.

There’s a lot more I could be doing, and I am working my way down that path as I learn more. But for now, I know that what I’ve changed is making a difference. I also know that what I'm learning about alternative cancer treatments is making a difference.
