A BABY FOOD DIET? Can you imagine? This diet is a new one that I have not heard of. I guess from what my research tells me is that this diet is big in Hollywood. From what I have read, this diet is ideal if you want to lose weight quickly. It is also great for eating on the run and it is supposed to curb your cravings. (read my article on time in regards to proper nutrition)
Ok, first things first. My 7 month old grandson is eating baby food and he is a little chunk. (a cute chunk, I might add) I don't want to be a cute chunk, do you? Another thing is that babies have to develop a taste for sweet things. They do not get this in their baby food. Parents introduce babies at a young age to all sorts of sweet things, such as ice cream, chocolate candy and cookies.
This diet is supposed to replace one or more meals per day by substituting jars of baby food. I guess some also use baby food to replace high caloric snacks. Experts say that this is just another gimmick or as I would say another Fad Diet. In my opinion I don't think that it will last too long. If I made a visit to my doctor about a weight loss program and told him that I wanted to eat baby food, I can see his expression and hear his response. I will leave that to your imagination.
This diet requires 14 jars of baby food per day to replace two meals and then a regular adult meal at dinner. Or, all snacks to be replaced by so many jars of baby food, with three adult meals per day. People are losing weight on this diet. But, what happens when the weight is off and the person goes back to eating adult food? I bet that the weight they lost will creep back on.
Baby food averages about 100 calories or less per jar. The positive is that baby food is not processed with sugar, salt, fat, and are free from additives and preservatives. Baby food also lacks enough fiber that an adult requires. It also lacks Vitamin D and Calcium that adults need an increase of as they age. (Refer to my article on additives and preservatives) In my opinion baby food jars do not contain a lot of food and it seems that one would be prone to over eating because they would feel that they did not get enough, thus not loosing any weight in the end. Eating foods with texture, fiber and flavor tend to help to create a full feeling in our belles. Research on this diet says that people are prone to binge eating more than ever on this diet.
I would miss the chewing and texture of food and it would get to be old stuff after a while. Why not grab an apple for the fiber and texture and enjoyment of chewing instead of a jar of mushy baby food? Remember that any healthy diet should be LIFE CHANGING. Are you going to stay on baby food for the rest of your life? This diet is really not for me.
I think that I would rather stick to raw fruits and vegetable for the enjoyment of flavor, chewing and texture. Baby food is very bland and I think that this diet would wear off quickly. It sure would not be something that I would want for the rest of my life. I like to eat and I enjoy my foods. The trick though is to enjoy a healthy, low caloric diet all of our lives. Is this where our poor eating habits and tendency towards fast foods and prepared foods has led many to... BABY FOOD?
