But then, drinking beer is good or bad for health?

Like all foods, scientists are still studying the beneficial or harmful effects that beer produce in the body. But all have one thing they are sure: Like all food, beer consumption should be moderate.The effects of alcohol on health depend heavily on the amount consumed and other factors such as gender, body weight, diet and genetic predisposition. Alcohol abuse increases mortality by causing liver disease, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. That's the bad part of it ...

The most recent literature, however, indicates that moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with a reduced risk of total mortality. According to new research, low glycemic index and the properties of phytoestrogens in barley and hops used in beer production are elements that promote a balanced diet and prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases.

Recently data were published on the potential protective effects of antioxidants in wine. It was also discovered that beer, wine and spirits differ widely in their antioxidant content, but consumption of these drinks does not lead to different antioxidant capacities in human serum. New figures, however, suggest that moderate consumption of each kind of such alcoholic beverages similarly increase the antioxidative capacity in human serum. These findings elucidate the contribution of moderate alcohol consumption to a healthy lifestyle.

But it gives tummy? Yep, it does. Like almost all other foods, some less, others more. A cup (300ml) of beer Pilsen, for example, has about 300 calories. The most full-bodied beers, especially the ales have more calories per milliliter.So the slogan, like everything in life is MODERATION. Consumption of moderate, regular beer can become a healthy lifestyle, along with a balanced diet and exercise.
