Green Cleaning, Healthier Indoor Living

I was listening to the BBC yesterday and they were talking about the rise of allergies lately. Seems they have doubled since the 1970s and more and more people are combating this by thinking green when it comes to their living spaces. I thought what better topic for an article than healthier indoor living.

What is thinking green?

I call it going natural. With the newer homes being so air tight every time we turn on our AC or furnaces we are sucking dirt and dust mites and all kinds of other pollutants from every nook and cranny in our homes. Many people do not know they make special filters to combat this and they are worth their weight in gold, and with the price of gold today, that is quite a bit. That is what I call green cleaning, the most you can do to make your space more healthy and livable.

How far can you go?

Did you know they have eco friendly furniture, natural no toxic shellac wood finish, and the list goes on and on. I even ran into the 10 most toxic chemicals associated with Autism that I recommend you avoid:

  1. Lead
  2. Methylmercury
  3. PCBs
  4. Organophosphate pesticides
  5. Organochlorine pesticides
  6. Endocrine disruptors
  7. Automotive exhaust
  8. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
  9. Brominated flame retardants
  10. Perfluorinated compounds

How about cleaning products?

The list of natural non toxic cleaning products is huge, for example, you have GreenShield Organic Household Cleaners and Laundry Products, Howard Naturals, Dr. Bronner Magic Soaps, From The Meadows Organics and many many more. If you really want to detoxify your household there are plenty of products available to help you do this. There are vegetable based cleaning products and others made of biodegradable plant based ingredients and more.

Where to start?

Me being the compulsive kind of person that I am could go overboard real easily when it comes to changing the way I buy and use products. But how far is too far? I guess it all depends on how far you are willing to take it. The point I am trying to get to is the sky really is the limit here, and depending on your budget and desire to detoxify your lifestyle that is a question only you the reader can answer.

In closing, the options are unlimited in today's world to live a long and healthy life, and I believe the fast food and fast lifestyle of the last 30 years have really taken a toll on the health of our nation. People are finally starting to wake up and see the results that have been created by too many chemicals building up in our bodies.. Now that you know there are many alternatives why not try a few and start building yourself a healthier lifestyle?

Nice, I enjoyed visiting your ws. Also, I have been cleaning my house using vinegar and water (mainly the kitchen and bathroom). Works pretty well and the smell goes away after a little while!! My husband knows I've been cleaning when he smells the vinegar!!
