Kinesiology in the simplest of terms is a study of human and animal movements and function. This alternative therapy goes deeper and branches off into different directions. One can go to college and study for a degree in this field of alternative medicine. In this article we are going to keep it simple and understandable. People who have had specific education related to kinesiology will attempt to help others improve their wellness, health and fitness through Kinesiology. Doctors who study this concept, and practice it, are inclined to push balanced diets and nutrition, vitamins, and exercise.

According to the Kinesiology Network this alternative therapy is now used by the chiropractor, osteopathic professionals, medical doctors, dentists and other health professionals who have a license to diagnosis and treat.

In 1964 there was a chiropractor by the name of Dr. George Goodheart who discovered that evaluation of normal and abnormal body function could be done by doing muscle tests on his patients.

It is difficult to describe exactly what kinesiology is unless you have participated in this and can see the outcome first hand. There are areas where emphasis is on multiple techniques, concepts and models.

Kinesiology is often used by the chiropractor during their evaluation and diagnosing of their patients. Our personal chiropractor has used this technique on me and it never ceases to amaze me on just how correct this technique is. Through the use of this technique, it enables the chiropractor to find health problems before they gain a foot-hold in your body. Once a disease has progressed it will start to give you particular symptoms of that illness. Kinesiology will alert the doctor way before symptoms even think about rearing their ugly head. Generally the practitioner will focus on one area of the body and not the whole body during the visit.

They also use this technique to decide what vitamins and minerals your body might be lacking. This technique can give the doctor a good look inside your body. Why doesn't our primary care doctors use this method to diagnosis? I really think that it is like one doctor told me years ago. "It is a whole different ballgame and the doctor would have to go through even more years of education". You will find that some doctors will work with the practitioner using this technique and others will not.

In one of my articles I wrote about the time that I had to view an autopsy being preformed on one of my patients, and we were able to see first hand what disease processes had affected what organs. Kinesiology gives the practitioner a good look at your organs and any disease processes that may be going on in your body that you otherwise would not know about until it is too late, through your muscle strength. Through this technique he can recommend and direct you towards the proper treatment. He may feel he can treat you and start you on the road to recovery or he may feel that you need to see your primary doctor for a consult.

The only thing I am able to tell you is what the doctor does during this technique as I have had it done several times and each time I am amazed. The technique has to do with muscle strength and balance. It is going to sound like a lot of mumble, jumbo but, all I can say is that it works.

In a nut shell this is what happens. The doctor may ask that you stand in front of him, sit in a chair or lay on your back on his table. Picture yourself standing in front of him. After he has taken a history from you and you have told him of any pain and how bad it is, he may have an idea that your liver is i

nvolved. You hold out one arm, waist-high and he will tell you that he is going to gently push your arm down, but you are to resist this downward push and keep your arm stable. Now he will lay his hand over the area of your liver and again push gently on your arm. If the problem is in the liver, your arm will become weak and fall down, you will not be able to resist the pressure. If you are able to keep your arm outstretched and it does not become weak and fall then the liver is strong and healthy and the problem you are having is somewhere else in your body. He will keep testing different areas until he finds the problem.

This technique also works well to find out what vitamins and minerals you are lacking in your system. The doctor will have you hold, say, a small vial of vitamin A in your hand while he applies gentle pressure to your arm. If your arm can resist the pressure then your body is not lacking of vitamin A. If your arm becomes weak and falls when he gently applies pressure then your system is lacking that vitamin. He may choose to test several different vitamins, minerals or herbs to see what it is that will help you.

If this alternative technique sounds interesting to you, read all you can and become well informed on the subject. Speak with your primary doctor and get his input.

Here's to your improved health and wellness
