Some of the low purine foods, and the ones you should include in your gout diet are: Rice, tapioca, artichokes, pumpkin, beets, corn, flour, bread, cereals, pasta, fungi, col, onions, eggs, sugars and its derivatives, coffee, tea, and low fat dairy products, fruits like cherries, melon, mandarin, lemon, orange, fig, bananas and grapes, etc., just to mention a few.

Here is a more detailed list of some of the low purine foods:

Low fat dairy

  • Low fat milk, cheese, yogurt, puddings, custard, etc.
  • Cereals, pasta, rice and potatoes, whole grain cereals and flour .

Low in purines vegetables

  • Artichokes, pumpkin, onion, broccoli, celery, carrots and beets.


  • Fresh fruits. Is also advisable the dry ones.
  • Lemon, melon, mandarin, orange, fig, bananas and grapes.
  • Cherries, blackberries, blueberries.
  • Kiwi.

  • Vegetables margarine, sunflower, soybeans, olive oil and corn.


  • Legumes.
  • Sugar and honey.
  • Natural juices, bicarbonate water and infusions.
  • Eggs.

Avoid fried foods, better bake or grill, or cook steam. Including low fat milk, cheese and eggs in the recommended quantities is advisable, to get the right amount of proteins in your diet.

You can eat whole grains, rice, pasta, flour, to meet the fiber requirements, vegetables as onions, celery, beets, carrots, raw celery salad are great.

In the fruits category eat melon, lemon, mandarin, figs, orange, grapes and bananas. The rapid elimination of uric acid requires the urine to turn alkaline, for which you should take a lot of fruits and vegetables rich in citric acid such as kiwi, broccoli and oranges. Is good to consume fruits that help dilute the urates in the urine such as cherries, blackberries and blueberries. Besides, take some vitamins, especially A, C and E, because they provide the antioxidants that favor the flushing process. Exercising regularly is also good.

Drink two and a half liters of water daily. Is advisable to follow rigorously a gout diet given by your doctor in each case, which excludes uric acid foods and includes drinking abundant water to allow this acid to be excreted through the urine, and avoid kidney and urinary track stones. Include always in your gout diet the aforementioned low purine foods.
