People Dealing With Pain Naturally

Growing up with ADHD and the obsession of doing things with an all or nothing attitude has had many positive results in my life, and some negative ones to boot. The ADHD kept me learning and achieving more than the normal person simply because I was always told what I could not do, so of course I had to prove the opposite. The all or nothing attitude on the other hand has turned me into one of those people dealing with pain every day.

When I was a wee lad I had many obsessions, from racing motorcycles to playing Hockey with the big boys and many other extreme sports that have taken a toll on this older mans body. Mix in a head on car accident in my mid 40s and I now have a recipe for having to be dealing with chronic back pain.

When this finally started to sink in was when a neck specialist with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN came into the examining room one day as I was getting this pain checked out after the accident and looked at me and said " Sir, you have the worst looking neck I have ever seem in my career!" Not exactly the news I wanted to hear.

We tried rehab and all kinds of pain management methods to deal with the day to day grind of not being able to turn your head left to right and nothing seemed to work to relieve this misery. I soon found myself eating both prescription and overt the counter pain pills like candy.

This went on for about a year and I soon realized that the pills had to go. They were doing more harm than the damage they were being taken for. I would have to deal with the naturally.

I have found many little methods of relieving the pain and making myself more comfortable, like making sure to to overdo things like mowing the lawn, or long car rides. Hot and cold compresses are of major help, and the people who invented heating pads are on my list of saints!

Too many times we run to the medicine cabinet for relief, and this has created a very dangerous mindset in we are poisoning our bodies to live in comfort. I know my comfort level will never be what it was when I was younger, but my activities in my younger years have dictated this outcome. I now have to find most of my pain relief naturally.

Word of advice to the young, take care of your backs and necks, you will need them when you grow older!

Funny, how when younger, we rarely heed advice to take care of our bodies until it is too late and the damage is done.
