Stress is experienced by all of us daily. Pressure comes from every angle, including family, friends, our employment and especially our finances. Unfortunately for some of us, that stress can lead to fatigue, memory lapses, headaches, anxiety, mild depression and even a low libido. All of these signs are symptoms of adrenal fatigue.
So what is adrenal fatigue and what can we do about it? Surprisingly, it's easier to control than you think, and can even be achieved naturally with the adrenal gland controlling benefits of Siberian ginseng.
When we come under stress, our body naturally kicks into "fight or flight" mode in order to handle the situation. Our adrenal glands turn on, releasing Cortisols to increase our heart rate, build energy quickly to our muscles, increase our blood sugar levels and stimulate more blood flow to our brains - all in preparation for our physical or mental "fight or flight". You probably have subconsciously noticed some of these signs yourself! Your heart seems to thump louder and your muscles tense as you prepare to do battle.
Once your "battle", aka stress, is over, your adrenal glands and cortisol should shut down, allowing your body to resume to normal. But, if you are under constant stress, these adrenal glands get stuck turned on, blocking your body's ability to return to its normal state. This is called adrenal fatigue and can cause cellular damage and blood sugar complications.
Siberian ginseng can help. Although not officially "ginseng" but substantially cheaper than the more common Panax, this Siberia grown plant and root is an adaptogenic herb that helps your body adapt to stressful situations and then return to normal. In addition to relieving fatigue, stress, and anxiety, Siberian ginseng seems to improve mental health and physical vitality.
Siberian ginseng is also starting to show it provides numerous other ginseng benefits. These include:
- the ability to fight off the common cold
- improved memory and concentration skills
- acts as a natural sleep seditive
- helps reduce cholesterol levels
- increases sperm count in men
- assists with erectile dysfunction in men
- promotes a healthy uterus, improving female fertility
Recent studies of ginseng are also starting to show positive effects on cancer patients. Not only does it seem to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy, but has been proven to stimulate t-cell activity, retarding and/or stopping the growth of cancerous cells.
However, despite the numerous Siberian ginseng benefits, there are potential side effects. These include but are not limited to headaches, low blood sugar, high blood pressure or low blood pressure. If you are experiencing chronic stress, speak with your physician about conflicts in adding Siberian ginseng to your daily regime.
