The Causes Of Poor Blood Circulation

Poor blood circulation creates many health problems for us, and it is very misunderstood. Traditional Chinese medicine focuses on getting the energy flow in our bodies in order and this includes the flow of blood. Blood stagnation in Traditional Chinese medicine is the cause of many disorders. Western medicine takes a more complicated approach with chemistry, but simply getting the blood flowing to every part of our body will eliminate a multitude of disorders.

What actually causes our blood stagnation? There are many factors and I am not about to diagnose anyone without meeting them. However, our sedentary lifestyle is usually the first culprit. After that, we need to look at what our bodies take in. Sometimes we breathe environmental toxins such as automobile exhaust. This has to be filtered out and when it isn't, it just gets stored somewhere in our bodies creating blockages. Next, look at your diet. If you have been eating fried foods with lots of transfats, that is going to build up in your arteries.

Our bodies are designed to be able to handle some toxins. That is what the liver does. However, if we don't give it the proper nutrients and stimulation in the form of exercise, the toxins will build up and circulation will slow. In addition to toxins, some of the main causes of poor circulation are atherosclerosis or cholesterol plaque building up in your veins and arteries.

Diets that lack enough antioxidants in the form of fresh produce, whole grains and oily fish often lead to poor circulation. Remember, antioxidants are great at helping to remove some of the toxins from our body.

Exercise gets the blood flowing, but the lack of daily exercise is often a cause of poor circulation. If you are not getting enough exercise and experience symptoms of poor circulation, you may want to start walking everyday.

Tight fitting clothing will constrict your circulation. While it is not something that is an internal cause of poor blood circulation, it is something that impedes the blood flow. Many people who wear skinny jeans are constricting the blood flow to the pelvic region and the legs.

Smoking just puts toxins into the air that we breath. Your heart pumps blood through the lungs to get oxygenated, but smoking limits the amount of oxygen available. This constricts blood flow to the heart and brain.

Finally, get stress under control. Stress will create poor circulation in hands and give you knots in your neck and shoulders.

It is essential to eliminate the causes of poor blood circulation. Some doctors will advise simply taking an asprin to thin the blood. While that does cause it to move around more, you do not want to be medicating yourself forever. Learn how to improve blood circulation so that you won't be taking an asprin forever.
