Treating Gout At Home

Although I do not suffer from Gout, All I had to do was take a look at the picture of this inflamed foot to understand just how painful an attack can be. I did some looking around to see how much information was available on treating gout at home, and I found a wealth of sources not only for the treatment of Gout but also many prevention tips.

First let me cover the prevention tips I ran into. While there is no cure for Gout so to speak, an interesting fact is that there have been studies done on why there are no documented cases of Gout among vegetarians. You can guess what the results were, DIET. It is all about what you eat and drink. A diet of 6 ounces or less of your favorite meats coupled with increasing your protein intake including fat free dairies, nuts and eggs will help with the symptoms of Gout, and many times prevent a flair up. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking 8 glasses of water a day to flush out the excess uric acid in the system.

Things to stay away from in your diet

  • Soda pop
  • Alcohol
  • Sugar
  • Asparagus and Mushrooms
  • Saturated Fats and High Protein Diets
  • Animal Protein
  • Highly processed foods
  • Junk food

These are a few foods to avoid in your daily diet. Some research should find a diet that works for you.

Good foods to eat

  • Cheese
  • Dairy products
  • Cherries or cherry juice
  • Celery
  • Bananas

Lets take a look at ways to treat Gout.. There are many anti inflammatory herbs you can take to help with Gout treatment.

  • Bromelain, found in pineapples
  • Ginger
  • Boneset
  • Boswellia
  • Capsicum
  • Turmeric

Some cleansing herbs that help lower your uric acid levels

  • Milk thistle
  • Horsetail
  • Black cherries
  • Dandelion root
  • Uva ursi Catreful with this. use no longer than two weeks. irritates the blatter/
  • Buchu
  • Alfalfa

Flax seed oil is also great for anti inflammatory treatment. Mix this with fish oil or sunflower to balance the omega-3s and omega -6s. this is a great gout herbal remedy.

We have covered a few ways to avoid and treat Gout flair ups in this article. there are many more ways to combat this disease, and a diligent search of the internet will provide ways to create and maintain a proper diet, avoid the foods that cause flair ups, and make life a bit easier for those who have to deal with this disease. the most important thing to know is knowledge is power, so do your research.
