Time Itself Will Tell

I just heard on the Radio that Time Magazine in the US has awarded its person of the year to Protestors Across The World. This is bigger news that it might seem to be at first glance.

Protesting is one thing, however being awarded a prestigious accolade for carrying out that protesting is quite another. It takes it from being what is oftened seen by many to be a socially inconvenient curiousity, and turns it into a major, socially sanctioned and respected activity.

This arguably suggests that the protestors being awarded are either exceptionally good at protesting or what they are protesting about is exceptionally bad; that is , it is seen as being overtly harmful to the general human population.

One or two protestors doing their stuff in a local shopping precinct is unlikely to make that many of us think seriously about any particular subject, yet when a global, co-ordinated, single focus protest takes place, and is recognised by a World famous publication, then what might be seen as local, disinteresting politics, suddenly becomes a species-level event.

This globally recognised award might just be one amongst many other steps that are being taken along that path which will see human beings rebelling against the long respected phenomenons of logic, reason, profit, and mis-prioritisation.

The way money is allocated, banks bailed out, bonuses paid and consumerist goods produced and sold is concerning to even the lower functioning rational animals amongst us, yet even the leasy economically savvy of us are asking what kind of logic is it that is at work?

Is it fuzzy logic, Boolean, Lazy Logic? or is just plain old greedy rationalisation and self-justifaction, shouted out loud and strong by capital heavy members of society. Whatever it is - it being questioned.

Don't get me wrong, logic and reason are fine in the right hands and when used for positive, humane outcomes, yet when the application of logic and reason to those involved in the global banking sector results in what was reputedly a near apocalyptic, financial meltdown, then common sense has to challenge that logic.

Perhaps what we are living through is a paradigm shift in common-sense. They are not as frequent as we might think and are often catalysed by global concerns such as war and extreme famine. Free market ideology and consumerist education is a deep psychological pattern in our species and only deep, psychological re-patterning can over-throw it.

To be effective at the species psychological re-patterning requires a global, coordinated, consistent process. Just now we seem to have a globally prominent process-jumped started to a higher level by Time Magazine. The question is, will consistent effort prevail?

Perhaps in a few years Time itself will tell.
