5 Top Tips To Keep Your Brain Fit

Have you noticed recently that you have become forgetful, experiencing ‘fuzzy brain’ or doing the same thing over again because you didn’t remember that you had already completed the task? If so, then you may be looking to find ways to keep your brain fit as you age. Even if you have not yet noticed these signs of aging creeping into your daily life, by acting now to keep your brain fit, you can be ahead of the game, improving your brain health every day.

There may be dozens of ways to maintain good brain health, from a proper diet, to plenty of physical exercise. I have found five that are pretty easy to incorporate into your life.

1. Eat Some Dark Chocolate. I know, twist your arm. This one not only sounds great, but it is great for your brain as well. Dark chocolate activates the part of the brain that pumps dopamine, which aides in brain development. This enables both learning and memory.

2. Memorize a Song. Memorizing a song requires attention to detail and active listening and understanding skills. You need to pay attention and you need to focus. These tasks aid in memory development.

3. Complete a Jig-Saw Puzzle. Find an interesting puzzle of 500 pieces or more and get to work! Jig-saw puzzles require fine visual judgment, the ability to rotate the pieces in your mind, and being able to pay attention to details while, at the same time, keeping in mind the big picture. All of these tasks working together, pulling from skills that are rooted in different areas of the brain, help to keep the brain fit.

4. Sleep Well. Research has shown that there is a strong link between optimum brain health and good sleep. Developing a fit brain can be as simple as creating and maintaining a good sleep routine. The importance of the connection between brain fitness and sleep cannot be underestimated.

5. Use Your Non-Dominant Hand. With this technique you can improve your brain health while having fun too! Practice doing simple tasks like brushing your teeth or combing your hair with your non-dominant hand. As you become good at these tasks, try more difficult tasks. You will develop better control of your non-dominant hand and you will also be building new pathways in your brain. Developing your brain will lead to a more fit brain.

Try these five ways of creating and maintaining a fit brain, whether you are already noticing your brain becoming fuzzy, or if you just want to prolong good brain health.
