One of the easiest things you can do to feel better than you have in years is to make better choices in your diet. Once you understand how just by choosing certain foods, you can allow yourself to not only feel younger now, but ward off the effects of aging years from now.

The reason you want to make healthier choices in your diet is because you want to nourish your body with the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. You want to consume those foods that can give you a boost of antioxidants to fight free radical damage, one of the top things that ages your skin and body at a cellular level.

Choosing the proper foods can give your body what it needs to increase energy, boost your metabolism and help to lower cholesterol, blood pressure and ward off heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

In addition, making better diet choices can help you lose weight, which will certainly make you look and feel years younger.

You can actually reverse the effects of aging by choosing foods that are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory in nature. If your diet consists of a lot of sugars, starches, and trans fat or saturated fat acids (pro-inflammatory), your food choices can actually speed up the aging process.

Some good beverages rich in antioxidants include:

  • Water
  • White, green, oolong or black tea
  • Red wine
  • Cherry juice
  • Purple grape juice

Foods that are loaded with antioxidants include fruits and vegetables, and the more rich in color, the better. Some examples include:

  • Berries (blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries)
  • Citrus fruits (especially the pulp)
  • Dark grapes
  • Prunes/raisins
  • Pomegranate
  • Papaya
  • Kiwi

Good vegetable choices include dark and leafy varieties like mustard greens, parsnip, kale, sweet potatoes, turnips, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage and carrots.

Examples of anti-inflammatory foods are:

  • Fish like salmon and tuna, which contain omega-3 fatty acids
  • Whole grains (barley, brown and wild rice, whole wheat pastas and breads, oatmeal, popcorn)
  • Lentils, beans
  • Nuts and seeds (walnuts, flaxseed)
  • Sprouts
  • Yogurt

Adding some of these anti-age foods into your diet will help your cells, body and skin in numerous ways. By fighting free radicals and adding anti-inflammatory compounds, you can reverse the effects of aging from the inside out.

Although making better choices in your diet is nothing but good for you, it will not do a lot to eliminate wrinkles on your skin. Eating better will help your complexion and skin look better, but because wrinkles are caused by other factors like your genes, age, amount of free radical damage due to smoking, exposure to pollution and UV sun rays, the way to younger looking skin is with a good skin care regime.

Keeping the skin clean, hydrated and nourished with a good topical cream is important, along with using a sunscreen. A good collagen or green tea skin cream is a good choice to help get rid of wrinkles.

You can start today by replacing foods in your diet with anti-age foods. To make an even greater impact, add the best vitamins for anti-aging and good skincare products to the mix. You really can eat, drink and look younger!
