Prevent Eye Wrinkles This Summer

Now that the bright, hot, sunny days are here, you want to do everything you can to prevent eye wrinkles this summer. There are things you can do to reduce the risk of making existing wrinkles worse and to prevent new ones from forming.

To begin with, the skin around and especially under the eyes, is thin and delicate. Your skin can be compared to a piece of thin paper. By constantly folding the paper, you will make permanent creases, or wrinkles, in the paper.

The same principle applies to the skin around your eyes. By constantly moving the skin to make creases, from smiling to squinting from the sun, you will end up with permanent lines in those areas. There are things you can do, other than refusing to smile ever again, to help prevent making those wrinkles worse.

Summer can be especially hard on your skin because of the sunnier days which may make you squint more. Not to mention the longer, more intense sunlight, allowing those relentless UV rays to zone right in and cause damage to the skin.

You know you have skin damage when you get sunburn, age spots or freckles start appearing or when you tan. This damage is just to the surface layer of your skin. There is far more damage going on underneath, such as the breakdown of collagen and cell damage, both of which cause the skin to age and wrinkle.

You can prevent a lot of this damage by always wearing a sunscreen every day. Anytime you go outdoors, even if to drive back and forth to the office, you need to use a high level SPF sunscreen. Consider wearing a tinted SPF lotion for a natural healthy glow that keeps skin protected from the sun.

A good starting point is to select an SPF of at least 15. If you have fair skin, you should choose a sunscreen with a higher SPF level.

Keep in mind that an SPF rating is based on protection from the less-intense UVB rays. For protection from UVA damage, look for products that contain avobenzone, oxybensone or sulisobenzone. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied periodically, especially if you are swimming.

The powerful UVA rays from the sun can cause damage even if you think you are being protected by the car windows or clouds. UVA rays can penetrate both glass and clouds to cause damage to your skin.

Moisturize your skin at night, especially the skin around and under your eyes, to keep the skin hydrated. Wrinkles love to form on dry skin and if you don't moisturize on a regular basis, you are making it a lot easier for fine lines and wrinkles to form.

Drink a lot of water to plump up your skin and hydrate from the inside. Drinking water can also help remove toxins that tend to settle in your glands and pores, and helps blood circulation.

Get plenty of rest so your skin has a chance to rejuvenate itself. Your skin works to heal and renew itself at night while your body is resting.

Wear sunglasses because not only do they make you look cool, they help keep the sun out of your eyes and reduces the chances of squinting.

The most important thing you can do to prevent eye wrinkles this summer is to limit your time in the sun from late morning until late afternoon. If you are in the sun, wear a high level SPF sunscreen on your face, especially around and under the eyes. Get yourself a new pair of shades to keep the sun directly out of eyes. To make an even bigger on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, try some facial exercises to reduce eye wrinkles to set the stage for a firmer and all-around smoother look.

You can enjoy the summer more without the extra lines and eye wrinkles.
