Beating Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are one of the most horrible things that a person can go through. They can be sudden and often traumatic events that can change the entire course of a person's life. There has been somewhat of a debate on what the best treatment options can be for someone that is experiencing panic attacks. Whether its medication, meditation, yoga, talk-therapy, cognitive therapy, self-help books, or a combination of these. But in the end does it really matter? What matters is that the treatment you receive makes you better...you work through it and conquer it; so that you can lead a normal life without worry or anxiety.

One possible solution to overcoming panic attacks may sound absolutely terrifying but it actually can empower you and put you back in control of your mind and body. This solution is inviting a panic attack to occur.

Everyone has different triggers that they know will cause a panic attack to happen. It may be the sight of something, it may be a body sensation, or it may just be you thinking about something that you cannot control. You know what triggers them for you and more than likely you try to avoid these things as much as possible. However inviting the panic attack to occur can help you in so many ways.

When you make a conscious effort to begin the panic attack it happens on your own terms. You control why and when it happens; this gives you the power over the panic attack because if you truly believe you can start a panic attack then you must also truly believe you can stop it.

On setting a panic attack also gives you the opportunity to fight it. It shows you that you can make it through it and you are not going to die, you are not going crazy, and you can beat it. This method can build your self-confidence back up and show you that when panic occurs you can deal with it. It also allows you to learn how to fight the thoughts, the sensations, and total madness that you may experience. We would all agree that if you got into a boxing ring with someone and fought them 20 to 30 times we would begin to see this other person’s weaknesses and we would learn how we could defeat them. Treat your panic attack the same way, find the weaknesses it has and exploit them for your benefit.

Beginning a panic attack on your own terms gives the power back to you. This self help for panic attacks can lift the burden of always being afraid and it can show you that the panic attack does not have control, you have control. You just have to build the self-confidence up in you to tell yourself that you will not be controlled by this and you can beat it and by inducing the panic attack you can do this. Self help for panic attacks can be one way that you can take back your life and start living the way life was meant to be lived.
