Are you one of the many anxiety sufferers seeking medications for panic attacks? If so, you must read on to learn some surprising facts about a few of the more popular medications for panic attacks.

Xanax is typically prescribed to treat generalized anxiety disorder, including panic attacks and anxiety associated with depression. To a lesser extent, Xanax is also sometimes prescribed for a host other problems, such as alcohol withdrawal.

Some of the side effects include ear ringing, involuntary movements, memory loss, allergies, low blood pressure, altered sex drive, and nausea. Even the typical symptoms of panic attacks, such as rapid heartbeat, chest pain, nervousness and anxiety, are possible side effects of this medication.

Some of the rare side effects include dizziness, rage, involuntary urination and bowel movements, seizures, and slurred speech.

Tolerance and dependence (addiction) may occur with prolonged use of this medication.

Valium is generally prescribed for the short term relief of anxiety, as well as alcohol withdrawal. For decades it has also been the prescription drug of choice for insomnia and, as such, has become a household term.

The common side effects include reduced muscle control, and fatigue.

Rare side effects include, altered sex drive, blurred vision, slurred speech, nausea, hallucinations, rage, loss of urination control, tremors, vertigo, and, once again, anxiety.

Because Valium causes drowsiness, you cannot drive or operate machinery while under its influence.

Like Xanax, Valium is addictive and requires a gradual withdrawal.

Prozac is a very common drug these days, generally prescribed for panic disorder (mostly associated with agoraphobia), depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder.

The more common side effects include reduced sex drive, decreased vision, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, dizziness, and anxiety.

The rare side effects include bleeding, confusion, instability, and weight gain.

Special Warnings:

Prozac can be very dangerous and even fatal when taken in combination with certain other drugs. Be sure to follow a doctor’s advice when taking Prozac.

Prozac and other antidepressants may cause suicidal thoughts in children.

This is only a very brief outline of just a few of the more popular medications for panic attacks. But it offers a sobering look at the potential dangers that one could face by beginning a prescription drug treatment plan. With some of these side effects having the potential to be life-altering, this is definitely not a decision to be taken lightly.

Naturally, a medical specialist must be consulted as part of any drug treatment plan, but even that advice can sometimes be flawed. Doctors are often quick to prescribe medications to treat mild and severe anxiety symptoms, simply because they do not have a cure.

What’s worse is that it can sometimes take doctors months or even years of trial and error experimentation to prescribe just the right drug at just the right dosage to suit an individual’s needs and tolerance levels. That could be months or years of trial and error experimentation on your body, possibly causing addiction or even permanent damage.

While there are certainly many cases of severe anxiety where prescription drugs are necessary, many sufferers can safely cure themselves without any medications for panic attacks, whatsoever. For instance, there is a simple procedure that can be followed to immediately stop many panic attacks right in their tracks. Would you like to avoid the potential side effects and dangers associated with most prescription drugs? Then follow this link to learn more:
