Natural Supplements Anxiety Treatment

More and more people are suffering from anxiety these days it seems, and while anxiety can be a natural reaction in life, for some, anxiety is not as easy to manage and can make living a normal life quite difficult. There are several different kinds of anxiety that people may suffer from, each of them having their own negative effect in life, depending on the extent the person is suffering.

Most people who suffer from anxiety for any amount of time, will usually end up in their Dr.'s office discussing their symptoms and possible treatment. It is not uncommon for Dr.'s to prescribe a person who is suffering anxiety, anti anxiety or antidepressant medications. Medications do have benefits, but they also come with many unwanted side effects that can almost seem not worth the risk, for some people. Because of this some sufferers will start searching for natural supplements anxiety treatment. Luckily enough for the people looking into natural treatment, there are several natural supplements that are available for anxiety.

What supplements can be used?

Kava-kava is a root found on south pacific islands and has been used in ceremonies and as a medicine for centuries on the south pacific islands. Kava, has a calming effect similar to medications such as Valium and other anxiety medications.Not only is kava known for it's calming effect, but it is also used as a muscle relaxant and sleeping aid as well. In recent years there has been a ban on Kava due to possible liver damaging effects. There have been debates on the truth to this due to the possibility that the persons whom suffered liver damage were also heavy alcohol drinkers, and not only that, but were also consuming the kava stems and leaves which is not recommended, and does not have same effect as the kava root. All in all, kava is very effective for anxiety and should only be used after doing research and deciding for yourself if you feel comfortable taking it.

Passion flower is grown and used in the south by native Americans for many centuries. The herbal parts of the plant consists of the flower, stem and leaves. Passion flower is used for the treatments of anxiety, insomnia, and nervous disorders. It is available as infusions, teas, liquid extracts and tinctures. Passion flower may interact with other medications, so it is important to discuss with your Dr. before use.

Chamomile is a herb in the same family as the daisy. Recent studies indicate that its use for anxiety and sleep are quite effective. During a study there were two separate groups, one of which took a placebo, and the other who took chamomile supplements. The group who took the lemon balm supplements were shown to have a significant reduction in anxiety, compared to the group who did not take the supplements. Chamomile can be used without the many negative side effects of medications.

Lemon balm has many beneficial uses which include treatment for upset stomach, bloating, intestinal gas, vomiting, pain caused by menstrual cramps, headache and toothaches. Lemon balm is also used for mental disorders, including hysteria and melancholia. Many people take lemon balm for the calming effect, and to help them sleep better at night. Lemon balm is highly effective for anxiety, and can also be used without the negative effects medications may have.

Suma root has been used for hundreds of years for it's medicinal properties. It is most commonly used to reduce stress of the body and mind, and to increase physical strength and endurance. Suma contains many vitamins, minerals and amino acids, making it useful for increasing energy naturally.

Scull cap is a natural herb that is used to reduce anxiety levels and help people get a good nights sleep. Scull cap has many similarities to valerian root, which is another herb that can be used to treat anxiety and sleep.

Valerian root has been used for hundreds of years to help aid in sleep. Valerian root can also be used to treat anxiety, but may cause tiredness as a side effect.

These are just a few of the many herbs/supplements that can be used to treat anxiety naturally. It is very important to talk to a doctor before deciding to use any of these supplements for anxiety to be on the safe side.
