In today’s world, we are always in a hurry to do what is the easiest and fastest way to get things done. Organic gardening today is not about who is the quickest or taking the shortcuts to get it done. It is a way of life in order to keep our life healthy and increase our longevity on this planet we call home. I remember growing up that my parents always told me, “Good things take time.” This is true about most things, but society has turned into a faster is better attitude and this is detrimental to us as a whole in more ways than just a few.
I think that our emotions run high and we think if we missed a text or an email, omigosh! The world is just not going to function without me. Wrong! Sometimes it is okay to just shut off the electronics and read a real paper book (not an eBook) or talk to our family, friends and neighbors – in person.
Next, there is this problem we have relative to connecting with everyone worldwide in that we don’t get enough sleep or rest. We get all amped up on energy drinks and then get on the computer or our phones/tablets and just keep messaging or posting no matter how we really aren’t saying too much to anyone in particular. The lack of sleep can create an unhealthy existence as well which coincides with the stress of hurrying to do everything yesterday.
Then, lastly, when we don’t get enough sleep, we tend to not eat properly or nutritionally – again, the hurry up and do it conquest. So, we tend to eat fast food (there’s that FAST word again) or simple menu items which do not contain enough nutrition to sustain our very existence. The health factor from this can be an entirely different subject matter altogether. So, when we do take the time out of our life and change our lifestyle to slow down enough to enjoy what we are really doing here on earth, we can get together with friends or family, just shoot the breeze or communicate effectively as well as eat a normal meal as a group and actually enjoy each other’s company!
There is something to be said about the good ol’ family meal and Sunday at Grandma’s house. If we don’t slow up, we will be shortening our own existence and then who really knows what we can possibly contribute to our society as an individual or group. Even though our lives are longer, we speed through life so fast that it is still just a blip in time. Let’s make it a point to smell that rose or hold the door open for someone and enjoy it as a very special moment in time during our speedy lifestyle….
