With the daily stresses of life, it is common for people to have anxiety once in a while. Everyone has natural triggers of anxiety that can can be helpful if we are in a dangerous situations etc. An example of this would be seeing a bear in the woods. In this type of situation fear or anxiety is triggered making us remove ourselves from the situation as fast as possible. If we did not have this “trigger” than we would be numb to a situation and most likely not react, keeping ourselves in dangerous situations. Then, there are anxiety disorders, an example of an anxiety disorder would be general anxiety disorder. General anxiety disorder can be mild to severe and can have serious negative effects in a persons life.
What is general anxiety disorder?
General anxiety disorder happens when a person has an over abundance of worries that occur over and over, that are very unlikely to happen, and sometimes unrealistic. These types of worries can cause a person to become so worried that it becomes unhealthy, and may cause many side effects that can cause a person to not function properly throughout the day. Sometimes people who have general anxiety disorder will feel like they are going crazy when they have these types of anxiety attacks. An example of this type of anxiety disorder would be- a friend or family member going for a drive somewhere and suddenly you become very anxious and have a “bad feeling” that something horrible is going to happen to them. While they are gone the sufferer will frantically worry about the person who went on this drive causing them to have heart palpitations, sweaty hands, dizziness, extreme worry, and feelings of going crazy, etc. A lot of the time these worries come out of no where with no natural trigger. This is just a small example of the many anxieties that could appear almost out of thin air for people who suffer from general anxiety disorder.
What causes general anxiety disorder?
As it stands, not a whole lot is known as to why these unnatural anxiety triggers happen, but one thing that is known is that it is usually genetic. With the many scientific studies being done, all we can do is hope to find a reasoning behind anxiety disorders so we can hopefully find a cure for it.
If you suspect that you might have any type of anxiety disorder you should go to your Dr. to discuss what options you think might be best for you.
