Why Doctors Are Not The Best Choice To Treat A Panic Attack

Panic, anxiety, we all experience it. For the majority of people, when we experience anxiety, we work through it, and then continue on with our lives. For some people, they don't find this a simple thing to do. For these people, the panic, the anxiety becomes worse and worse until they are having a panic attack (anxiety attack).

So when these people go to their doctor, what happens? See, doctors come in two basic types: Surgeons, who are taught that everything can be fixed by surgery (cutting), and medical doctors, who are taught that everything can be fixed with medicine.

So if you go to your doc and tell him you are having heart palpations, and other signs of a panic attack, you'll probably be subjected to an expensive battery of tests. When this shows nothing is "wrong", you might be told that you are "fine". You might be referred to a psychiatrist, or get a prescription for anti-anxiety meds. If you go to the psychiatrist, you will probably once again get a prescription for anti-anxiety meds.

Unfortunately, the meds fix nothing. If you stop taking them, the attacks come right back. Some of the meds are so strong that they can keep you from living your life, remaining in a zombie-like state.

Not good.

Why does this happen?

The drugs only mask the symptoms of your panic attack, not actually treat (cure) them. These drugs were developed to help, not fix. Kind of like getting some pain meds after having twisting your ankle: they are meant to mask the pain while your body heals its injury.

Understand that your body has a Central Nervous System, that gives and receives all sorts of your body's signals. At times, for some people, these signals are not handled right, and spiral out of control. This is not anyone’s fault, it just happens this way to some people. Doctors, who are used to being able to fix anything that they find, are understandably clueless. They just don't have the training to deal with these problems, so they revert to their training, which is to load you up with meds. Meds that only mask, and don't fix anything. Oh, you'll feel better (if you're not so loaded up that you can't feel at all). Feeling like everything is okay is only an illusion. If you don't believe me, try stopping the meds. The problem is still there.

The good thing is that you are not out of options.

You don't have to live with the fear of the next panic attack. You don't have to dose yourself up so much that you have trouble functioning. You shouldn't be ashamed at having a panic attack, it's not something you chose to do, or caused to happen. Some people don't understand what is going on, what is happening to you. These people, even doctors, just haven't been informed; they just haven't dealt with it before.

You are not the problem. It's your Central Nervous System, and how it is working.

Here's the good part.

You can learn how to deal with these attacks. You can find an effective course that treats your condition. You won't have to run to psychiatrist, or to a medical doctor and get all medicated up. There are systems that were developed by someone who been in your shoes, has walked where you are walking now. Who learned what to do, and came out the other side with a renewed spirit. Learn more about what you can do to fix your condition.
