I always make sure I have a bottle of lavender essential oil on hand. It's the most versatile yet gentle oil out there, and it can be used for pretty much anything.
I've been using lavender essential oil for years. I'm drawn to her beautiful, soothing and healing scent. I heard someone call lavender a hug in a bottle, and that is true. There is something about this herb that makes me smile, helps me find back to my center and regain my strength.
Here are 5 great uses for essential oil of lavender.
1. Anxiety
Lavender is a known remedy for anxiety.
I remember one day in particularely, only a few weeks ago when I was feeling very anxious about meeting someone. I was also frustrated about feeling nervous about such a small thing.
I had some time before my bus left and I decided to visit my favorite health food store. I remembered I needed more lavender oil and bought a small bottle to bring with me, the only one they had. I sat down and applied some of the oil between my eyes. I breathed deeply and closed my eyes. The scent filled my world and I was amazed how wonderful it made me feel. Lavender oils do smell differently, and this one was especially sweet and fragrant. My anxiety was almost gone within minutes. I remember going on the bus feeling relaxed even though I didn't know my stop. Somehow it all worked out.
2. Peaceful sleep
When I remember I put a drop of lavender oil between my eyes, or on my pillow before going to sleep. Doing this helps me calm down after a stressful day.
Most essential oils needs to be diluted before using, but lavender is gentle enough to be applied directly on the skin.
3. Natural disinfectant
Lavender makes a wonderful all purpose cleaner. Here is a recipe I use all the time.
Fill up a spray bottle half way with white vinegar, and the rest with water. Add 15-25 drops of lavender. Let it sit a few hours of overnight before smelling it to see if it needs more lavender.
I use this on my counters, in the bathroom, on the floor....everywhere! It smells amazing! We can all use aromatheraphy while cleaning, and the best thing is that it's non-toxic.
4. Heals burns
Lavender works well on minor burns.
5. Scenting things, rooms.
I have sachets of lavender flowers in my drawers. Now and then I add more essential oil to make their scent strong again. You can also put a few drops of oil on a piece of cloth and leave in your drawer.
I also use lavender when doing laundry. I put a few drops on a cloth and put it in the machine with my clothes for extra disinfectant and added scent. I use soap nuts for my ditergant.
I also make a gorgeous rose and lavender room spray. Or simply put a bit of lavender oil in my diffuser.
Conclusion
Lavender is one of the most widely used essential oils we have. It is gentle yet powerful, and can be used to ease our anxiety, as a disinfectant, to heal burns and much more! It combines well with other herbs in creations such as my favorite rose and lavender room spray.
I recommend that you make sure to always have a bottle of lavender essential oil close by. Treat lavender like a good friend you can call on when you need her.
