Essential Oils for Beautiful Hands

We can work out and exercise at home or at the gym to look after our bodies, we can also look after our faces by removing our make-up each night and by using face masks, by cleansing, toning and by moisturising regularly but our hands tend to get a little neglected.

Our hands reflect our age so it is important to take the time to look after them properly.

Age spots make an appearance on the back of our hands and one of the first signs of departed youth is loose, wrinkled skin on the back of the hands. Our hands are more exposed to impurities and pollutants in the atmosphere than any other part of our body.

Have a think about how much dirt, grime and detergents our hands are exposed to and handle on a daily basis. The skin on the palms of our hands is thicker than other areas of the body, except for our feet, but we really should wear rubber gloves for many of the jobs they carry out, but I wonder how many of us bother? I use gloves for washing up now and again but not every time.

Happily, essential oils can really help us to keep our hands looking their best. You can simply add a few drops of essential oil to your favourite hand cream and it is even better to make your own hand cream from scratch.

Below I will outline a great basic hand cream:

  • 12g of beeswax
  • 12g of cocoa butter
  • 30ml of almond oil
  • 5 drops of evening primrose oil
  • 5 drops of carrot oil

You will need to melt the beeswax and cocoa butter in a glass bowl over a pan of hot water before adding the oils. This is the basic hand cream that can be made thinner by adding some more almond oil if you wish or if you prefer a thicker cream, make up this mixture with less than 30ml of almond oil to start with. Then just add 10 drops of your chosen essential oil from the following list:

Essential Oils for use with the hand cream:

  • Sandalwood
  • Patchouli
  • Lavender
  • Rose
  • Geranium
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon
  • Lime
  • Carrot
  • Neroli

Some of us may prefer a more luxurious hand cream every now and then or to use as a night cream for our hands.

I will outline a great luxurious hand cream / oil below:

  • 10ml of avocado oil
  • 10 drops of carrot oil
  • 10 drops of evening primrose oil
  • 10 drops of jojoba oil
  • The oil of 2 vitamin E capsules

Blend the above together well and then add:

  • 5 drops of Rose
  • 2 drops of sandalwood
  • 2 drops of lemon
  • 1 drop of geranium

This makes a lovely hand cream / oil and it goes far so you will only need a small amount each time. Massage it well into your hands and enjoy the benefits.

Wishing you health and wellness the natural way.
