Essential Oils for the Feet

In one of my last articles I mentioned that our hands are often overlooked when it comes to any sort of beauty regime we may have. Some of us like to keep our bodies healthy by working out at home or at the gym. Most of us like to keep our faces looking as good as they can do but an area of the body that really does seem to get neglected is our feet.

Some jobs involve us being on our feet for a large part of the day. They carry our weight as we run for a bus or up and down stairs etc and are usually squeezed into ill-fitting shoes (this is mostly aimed at us ladies)!

Our feet are often very undemanding. When you think of the work they do for us day in, day out, we really should be giving them a little bit more attention every now and then, but instead they go silently about their daily chore. Hard skin builds up over time which can cause pain later in life. It’s best to tackle this when it appears or even better still, prevent the hard skin from appearing in the first place.

A pumice stone is great for keeping hard, rough skin at bay and the focus should be on the heel of the foot and over all the other areas where hard skin is appearing or may have already appeared.

Have you ever noticed how amazing it feels to go bare foot on the grass after a week or so of your feet being cooped up in shoes, walking or running over hard ground during the day, relentlessly carrying us about our daily lives? This is because our bare feet connect us to the earth. They ‘ground’ us, which discharges us of our build-up of static electricity.

It feels wonderful to run on the sand bare foot or to paddle in the shallow waves, it’s therapeutic and it’s a great idea to try to do something like this as often as we can.

Our feet contain over 70,000 nerve endings, which is why a foot massage usually feels so good and is wonderfully relaxing.

Our feet deserve more and thankfully essential oils can work their magic here too so below I have listed some foot loving essential oils:

  • Geranium – because it improves the elasticity and strengthens the skin, helping to prevent blisters and it improves the circulation of the foot.
  • Peppermint – because it is very refreshing and give the feet a new lease of life.
  • Calendula – because it is great for hard skin and corns which appear on the feet.
  • Lavender, chamomile or fennel – because these are a great relief for tired, swollen feet. You can use these alone or mix them together in equal parts.

A great foot bath involves a bowl of warm water which has a dozen or so small pebbles in the bottom. Add 4 drops of your chosen essential oil and 4 tablespoons of salt. Rub the soles of your feet over the pebbles, while inhaling the aroma. Do it slowly with purpose and really enjoy how it feels.

After drying your feel you can massage the following blend of oils into your feet, taking the time to massage in and around each toe.

Essential Oil Treatment Blend For Feet

  • 6 drops of palma rose
  • 4 drops of lemon
  • 3 drops of thyme linalol
  • 2 drops of benzoin

Blend these together well and then use 5 drops of this blend per 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil.

All it takes is a bit of attention and a few special treatments to get your feet looking loved and beautiful again.

Wishing you health and wellness the natural way.

Hey Rebecca, I read your comment. Thanks. :) If you need any help at all, feel free to stop by my wall. I've been at it 2 years here. I operate 3 websites, one of them for random small topics. This is all pretty easy to me. Just be sure you put most of your work on your websites (around 80%) because that's where most of your potential's at. Wish you the best Rebecca.
