Aromatherapy or plant oil inhalation has been a common practice in many societies over the years. Inhaling essential oils has proven to be effective in offering enhanced mental, physical and emotional well-being and especially when used as they should. Owing to their source, these oils are safe and effective and their purity makes them a trusted source of physical and psychological therapy. You can use these oils together with other accompanying natural ingredients such as carrier or vegetable oils or on their own.
Only use quality essential oils in aromatherapy
Although these oils are highly effective, it is important to note that only pure and undiluted oils can provide you with the desired therapeutic benefits. Most perfumed and synthetic oils do not have the important levels of property qualities and therefore cannot perform optimally as desired. However, using the pure and quality essential oils will help enhance your state of mind, create an ideal mood and enhance your physical health.
How essential oils work in aromatherapy
Normally, the oil is diffused and then inhaled by the user and then processed through the smell senses sending healing benefits of the fragrance all the way to the brains. Based on the particular properties in the oil, you will start feeling the effects immediately or progressively. Some of the things you should expect when using these oils include the calming of tense muscles, relieving from negative emotions and cleansing the body by purging different toxins. Essential oils can be used through topical application and inhalation during aromatherapy.
Topical application
This is done by applying the essential oils on the skin according to the given guidelines. It is important to ensure that the oils that ought to be diluted are diluted in the proportions given before use. You can apply the essential oils on different parts of the body including the neck, crown of the head, stomach, chest and the upper parts of the back among others.
How to do the application
• Pour the recommended drops of essential oils on the affected part or directly on the hand.
• Rub the oil evenly on the area and then massage the particular body part as you apply some pressure. Do this in a circular motion and repeat the process if necessary.
Inhalation
Essential oils can be inhaled by smelling them directly from the container or bottle. The oils can also be diffused into the air using a special device made for such purposes and once done, you can inhale the minute sized vapor particles. There are diffusers which can successfully release the aromatic benefits into the air while ensuring that the essential constituents are intact.
You can pout the essential oils into a bucket of hot water and then lower your head inside. Cover both your head and the bowl opening with a piece of cloth to prevent the vapor from escaping. Inhale the vapor/steam for a few minutes before uncovering the bucket. Additionally use the oils with a humidifier and this is done by pouring a few drops on a small piece of cloth and then placing it in from of the rising steam. Do not place the cloth on the humidifier directly.
