Ever since peppermint essential oil was discovered in ancient Egypt, it's uses have multiplied. Peppermint is a natural healer, helping ease aches and pains. Peppermint oils uses are numerous, and the benefits are amazing.
Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) is a plant that is a hybrid between spearmint and water mint plants. The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves of the plants. The aroma, as you can imagine is like a highly concentrated candy cane. It has a medicinal, minty ascent. You can find peppermint oil in capsules for digestion or in straight oil form for topical use. Peppermint essential oil has a cooling effect, and it also helps with inflammation.
Some more common benefits of peppermint are: Muscle Pain Reliever, Headaches, Fever, Congestion, Asthma, Nausea, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Arthritis, Fungal Infections, Respiratory Infections, Digestive Problems, Sprains and Strains
You can use peppermint essential oil in many different ways:
- Apply 2-4 drops neat to your hand, rub your hands together and then apply it to the area that it is needed.
- Inhalation: You can either apply the oil directly to your hands, rub them together and then cup your hands over your nose and inhale deeply. If you prefer, you can also apply 2-4 drops to a tissue and inhale deeply through your nose.
- Diffusing: Place 2-6 drops in an oil diffuser and allow the aroma to spread throughout your home and office.
- Room Spray: Add 50 drops to a small bottle of pure water
- Massage Oil: Add 1 drop of the essential oil to 2ml of massage oil
Peppermint essential oil is an key component to any aromatherapy kit. It works well by itself, but it also blends well with other essential oils. I prefer to apply it directly to my low back pain and to use it on my temples when a headache hits. I also like to blend it with Eucalyptus essential oil when a cold strikes the family. I simply apply it to the chest and back, it works wonders to alleviate congestion and coughs.
You can combine Peppermint essential oil with all of the following: Pine, Basil, Bergamot, Rosemary, Cedarwood, Lemon, Marjoram, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood and Spearmint.
Here is one of my favorite blend recipes:
Achy Back Relief: 10 drops of Peppermint + 10 drops of Rosemary + 10 drops of Basil. All of these essential oils help relieve pain. The Rosemary also acts as a stimulant. The combination of these three essential oils is a great way to rid yourself of all of your aches and pains.
As you can see, there are plenty of peppermint oil uses. Add it to your aromatherapy kit or to your medicine cabinet, either way you will not be disappointed!
Many Thanks~
