The Top Eight Essential Oils for A Basic Care Kit

If I had to put together a choice of versatile, useful essential oils for a basic care kit, I would choose these:

Tea Tree

Tea Tree has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. The antiseptic power of this essential oil is very impressive. Tea Tree can be extremely valuable in a varied range of conditions such as the treatment of candida, sunburn, ringworm, acne, athlete’s foot, toothache and all sorts of other infections.

Lavender

Lavender is wonderful to use and is capable of numerous important jobs. If each household had no other oil than lavender, it would be a good place to start. Lavender is a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, it helps with detoxing and is can be used as a sedative. Lavender is great at treating burns and scolds, insect bites and it promotes healing and helps to prevent scarring. Lavender stimulates the immune system, which in turn contributes to healing by stimulating the cells, encouraging them to renew and restore more quickly. This oil is truthfully indispensable.

Geranium

Geranium not only smells wonderful but it works very hard and is valuable in lots of medical conditions. It is very effective for the treatment of chilblains and brings a healthy radiance when used in skin care. Geranium is useful for menopausal problems, blood disorders, diabetes, as a tonic for nervousness and is used for throat infections. Geranium has antiseptic and astringent properties and is so versatile; it can be used for treatments ranging from infertility to frostbite.

Chamomile

Please be aware that there are a few different types of chamomile. There is Chamomile German and Chamomile Roman Chamomile German is a superb variety and has a gorgeous deep blue colour. Chamomile Roman is fantastic for nervous complaints and is also another great oil which can be used for sufferers of insomnia. Generally, Chamomile is most praised for its anti-inflammatory properties, but it is also antiseptic, anti-bacterial and can be used as a disinfectant. Chamomile can be used for the treatment of burns, eczema, psoriasis, asthma, sprains and strains, fever, nausea and diarrhoea. Chamomile is used in rejuvenation treatments and its pain-relieving sedative, diuretic and calming properties make chamomile another versatile and desired essential oil.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is yet another splendid and adaptable essential oil. It has a cooling effect on the body during the summer months and protects the body during the colder winter months. It has deodorising, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and pain-relieving properties. Eucalyptus is useful in the treatment of animals and acts as an insect repellent. There are many varieties of this essential oil and any one of them would be a great addition to the basic care kit.

Peppermint

Peppermint has many health providing properties and it most excellent for digestive problems and respiratory problems. Peppermint is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. With these qualities, peppermint is a great oil to use for the treatment of headaches, migraines, colds, flu, catarrh, indigestion, flatulence, bad breath, fatigue, toothache, rheumatism and varicose veins. It can also be used to keep unwanted pests away like mice and fleas!

Rosemary

Rosemary is a great oil to have in a morning bath or to use in your morning shower as it is a physical and a mental energiser. Rosemary is also a great oil for all sorts of muscular conditions which makes it the perfect bath oil after a long and tiring day. Rosemary can be used for the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, depression, memory loss, migraine, headaches, flu symptoms and muscular sprains. It is also great for beauty treatments as it’s used for cellulite and acne.

Lemon

Lemon essential oil is uplifting. This essential oil has anti-bacterial and antiseptic qualities and will help with many tasks when used in blends which include helping ease a tension headache, treating verruca’s and insect bites. It acts as a stimulant for the lymphatic system and also acts as a stimulator for the digestive system. Lemon will aid slimming, help the elimination of cellulite and it will keep wrinkles at bay.
