Arthritis Induced Insomnia – How Do You Cope With It?

If you suffer from arthritis you know all too well how debilitating it can be. The nagging pain just won't let up, but you're never more aware of it than when you're trying to get some sleep at night. The pain will keep you wide awake. You'll be suffering from arthritis induced insomnia.

To stay healthy and conquer your arthritis you need to get plenty of rest, but you can't get much rest because your arthritis pain keeps you awake at night. It's a vicious circle. The arthritis induced pain prevents you from sleeping, and without sleep you can't get the rest your body needs to get better.

Fortunately, you have options available to you in finding a solution to arthritis induced insomnia. You have to look for an answer because insomnia can be very damaging to your health.

To properly identify insomnia you must suffer from one or more of several conditions. The most common and obvious is having difficulty falling asleep at night. But this is a common occurrence that many people may have to deal with sometime in their life.

But, if this happens frequently, if you find yourself wide awake at bed time and can't seem to fall asleep even when you are very tired, you would be well advised to consult with your doctor.

Another symptom of insomnia is when you wake up for no reason in the middle of the night. That’s another symptom of insomnia.

Yet another symptom of insomnia is when you find yourself tossing and turning for no good reason. You feel very tired, even sleepy, but you just keep tossing and turning and can’t fall asleep. You are suffering from insomnia.

A somewhat odd symptom of insomnia is when a person sleeps all through the night, but they wake up too early and can't get back to sleep, and they do not feel rested from the many hours that they were asleep.

When your insomnia is diagnosed, you may be suffering chronic insomnia, or it can be intermittent insomnia, or it may just be a period of short-term insomnia.

Coming back to the arthritis sufferers, they will unfortunately be subjected to chronic arthritis because it will take place over a long period. Since this insomnia is induced by the pain of arthritis, they repeatedly have trouble sleeping.

People that suffer from arthritis may experience chronic insomnia for several different reasons, not just from the pain they experience.

In some instances people that have arthritis find that when they have a physically active day they experience severe pain from inflamed joints caused by this activity. The result is that they will end up spending a sleepless night.

Most people that have arthritis often experience a high degree of stress which will cause them insomnia.

Another reason for insomnia may be worrying about an upcoming event, such as an appointment with a doctor.

If a relatively young person is diagnosed with arthritis they are probably suffering from insomnia just as much as an older person that has battled with this decease for quite some time. Both can be suffering from chronic insomnia.

Unfortunately, insomnia may be the side effect of a medicine that is prescribed to combat the symptoms of arthritis. So the arthritis patients have the choice of both suffering the pain and have insomnia, or take medication that will take care of the pain, but will keep them awake.

People that suffer from insomnia have several options that will help them. They would do best to work with their doctor to explore what should be done. Whether it is finding a way to decrease the stress in their lives, or being careful about physical activities.

And your doctor may offer other alternative medication that hopefully will not cause so much interference with your sleep.

With the help of your doctor you should be able to find a solution to your chronic insomnia, so that you get all the sleep and rest you need to stay healthy.
